Hello everybody,

You certainly know these expressions :
- To forgive and forget
- to hold the grudge
- to turn the other cheek
- to bury the hatchet
- water under the bridge
- to get a chip on one's shoulder
Now can you use them in these sentences :
-I always forgive people. I'm not the sort of person to.....
- We used to be bitter enemies, but that's all....
- If possible the best policy is ....
- I think I should go and talk to Sally and ...We can't keep ignoring each
other
- If someone hurts you, the best option is to ...
- John's a very difficult person to work with. He's...about not getting
promoted last year

Hello maya13!
- I always forgive people. I'm not the sort of person to hold a grudge. (j'ai préféré mettre "a" grudge...)
- We used to be bitter enemies, but that's all water under the bridge.
- If possible the best policy is to forgive and forget.
- I think I should go and talk to Sally and bury the hatchet ...We can't keep ignoring each
other.
- If someone hurts you, the best option is to turn the other cheek.
- John's a very difficult person to work with.
... He has a chip on his shoulder about not getting promoted last year /
... He got a chip on his shoulder after not getting promoted last year.

Hello maya.
Here is my homework.
- I always forgive people. I'm not the sort of person to hold(or to harbour) a grudge.
- We used to be bitter enemies, but that's all water under the bridge.
- If possible the best policy is to forgive and forget.
- I think I should go and talk to Sally and I should bury the hatchet(or the tomahawk). We can't keep ignoring each other.
- If someone hurts you, the best option is to turn the other cheek.
- John's a very difficult person to work with. He has a chip on one's shoulder about not getting promoted last year.
If the answers are good, what is the reward?
and see you soon.

Good one, thanks Maya!
OK, let's give it a try...Not sure about the meaning of all these expressions though. I don't really know what kind of answer is expected for 3 and 5 so my selection would be interchangeable for those 2.

-I always forgive people. I'm not the sort of person to hold a grudge
- We used to be bitter enemies, but that's all water under the bridge
- If possible the best policy is to forgive and forget
- I think I should go and talk to Sally and bury the hatchet. We can't keep ignoring each
other
- If someone hurts you, the best option is to turn the other cheek

- John's a very difficult person to work with. He's getting a chip on his shoulder about not getting
promoted last year

Thanks and bye!

hello everybody,

You've worked very well (but it was easy)

- I'm not the sort of person to hold a grudge to hold a grudge :
Je ne suis pas du style à garder rancune
- We used to be bitter enemies but that's all water under the bridge now :
Nous étions les pires ennemies mais c'est du passé maintenant
- The best policy is to forgive and forget :
La meilleure politique c'est de pardonner et d'oublier
- I think I should go and talk to Sally and bury the hatchet :
Je pense que je devrais aller parler à Sally et enterrer la hache de guerre
- If someone hurts you the harder option is to turn the other cheek :
Si quelqu'un vous blesse, l'option la plus difficile c'est de tendre l'autre
joue
- John's a very difficult person to work with. He's got a chip on his shoulder
about not being promoted last year :
C'est très difficile de travailler avec John. Il est aigri de ne pas avoir
été promu l'année dernière

that's all folks, thank you
