Dear Sir,

I acknowledge receipt of your letter faxed on November 29th and I am grateful to you for bringing to my attention these matters. First and foremost I am terribly appalled by the assertions expressed on British television, which border on slander. This cock and bull story doesn’t hold water and I urge you to disregard those inaccurate statements. However I insist on living up your expectations on that case and, accordingly, you or any other member of the group framework are able to visit any of our factories throughout the world.

Besides, in reply to your questions, I can claim our company benefits from a broadly-based geographical spread, for our companies are established as well in Tunisia, Turkey or Cuba, as in Bangladesh. Moreover I deemed I wise to ask for all avalaible enquiries about the staff of each plant.

Though it’s not in the company’s habit of talking about its policies as far as work and environment are concerned, being accused of wreaking havoc with the environment and using child labour leads me to assure you that laws laid down by the Bangladeshi government regarding environment and children’s work are thoroughly enforced by Nortex. In the mean time information about production costs remains sensitive and can not be passed on for obvious reasons.

It is nevertheless the case that what has been stated publicly with groundless arguments has undermined our corporate image and could toll the death knell for us : it could result in our company going bust.

In line with this, I’m strongly committed to not caving in to pressure over this ordeal and getting it over with. It’s an understatement to say it doesn’t depict us in a favourable light and Nortex is going to sue the British TV channel, which has overstepped the mark, to make up for the damages.

As a matter of fact, Nortex fully upholds campaigns waged by environmentalists and opponents of child labour and its sales and earnings forecasts don’t take precedence over the children’s sake and the environment protection.

Your visit to Lille on next Thursday at 11 a.m. will be a chance for us to talk about this subject at greater length.

By then I remain at your disposal for any further enquiry or clarification you may wish to obtain.
