Meaning of 'not be where near'?
Message de gylles posté le 26-11-2008 à 20:12:46
I need help to understand
With high expectations I found and watched this version of his clip.
Yeah what can I say..., he's no where near....
I've found this comment in a forum, I can understand the first sentence but not the last one very clearly, does it mean the version of the clip which has been watched by him wasn't as good as the first one? I think in french should exist one expression equivalent, maybe "être loin d'égaler" (a big difference between the quality of two different works or things?).
So if somebody can tell me more about this "not be where near" I'd be very glad of it
Waiting again for a new answer

The phrase is not "not be where near"
The correct infinitive version is "to be nowhere near" or "not to be anywhere near"
It means you are a long way away from a place, or from achieving a goal.
Examples:
He's nowhere near passing his exam.
Edinburgh is nowhere near london.
