Hello vardaf,

I am wondering if you do not mean:
"to hang ABOUT downtown with friends" which is a little different from hanging AROUND and means "traîner avec, poireauter", whereas "hanging around with" rather means "passer son temps avec quelqu'un". Both meanings are very close to one another anyway, but they are often associated with mischief, "they're about to no good!".
