Al Capone, the story of Scarface, by Bourbotte Louis

Al Capone

His name was Alphonse Gabriel Capone. He was born on  January 17th 1899 in New York, in the district of Brooklyn.

He was the most famous gangster of the 20's  and an important person who contributed to the development of  crime in the United-States.

He was in the 'Five points' gang and Frankie Yale was his boss.

Frankie Yale took on Al Capone as a waiter in the 'Harvard Inn' bar. One day , he fought with a customer who hit his face with a razor. After this quarrel, his nickname was 'Scarface'.

In 1918 he married Mary Coughlin.

His first arrest was due to  disorderly conduct.

He killed two people for Frankie Yale and after hurting badly the member of a rival gang, he had to hide to Chicago to avoid a counter-attack.

There he 'worked' under the protection of John Torrio, a friend of Yale's, who, after being seriouly shot, let Al Capone as the boss of his gang.

He and his gang soon became very rich and  powerful through organized crime and he had many enemies who attempted to kill him.

Although he was one of the most famous criminals of his time, he was so clever that for a very long time, the police could never find evidence to put him to jail.

He was eventually sentenced to prison for, among other things, tax evasion and violation of the Prohibition laws which forbade to sell alcohol.

In 1934 he was sent to the 'Alcatraz' prison just after staying at the federal prison of Atlanta. In 1947 , he died in his house because he had a heart attack.
