Lesson
1st Conditional:
We use the 1st conditional to talk about something in the future which will probably happen in certain situations.
We form it like this:
If + present simple + will/won't + infinitive
Examples:
If you leave at 2.00, you will be in Washington by 9.00.
We won't go out for dinner if you don't want to.
If I have time, I'll visit Tokyo.
They won't eat if they aren't hungry.
2nd Conditional:
We use the 2nd conditional to imagine what might happen in certain situations.
We form it like this:
If + past simple + would/wouldn't + infinitive
Examples:
If I earned more money, I would buy more clothes.
He would get the job if he spoke fluent English.
If I had time, I'd go to the gym more often.
Travelling to work would be easier if I had a car.
We can use the were form of the 2nd conditional to give or ask for advice
Examples:
If I were you I'd change my job.
What would you do if you were me?
