Ordre des adjectifs - cours
Adjectives describe, limit, modify or confine the implication of nouns and pronouns. Adjectives usually come before a noun or pronoun.
The word RED in "the red car" is an adjective. Also, the words ARID and FIFTEEN in the next clauses are adjectives. “Arid dress.” “Fifteen people.”
It is not proper to use more than two or three adjectives together in a sentence. Adjectives that belong to the same class (i.e. describe the same noun equally), are named coordinated adjectives, and they should have a comma between them.
If you have two adjectives, you also can use a conjunction (i.e. and or but) between them. If you have three coordinated adjectives, only separate them with a comma, except the last one. (Do not use a comma between the last adjective and the noun).
When an adjective comes after a linking verb, it is called a predicate (predicative) adjective. e.g.“This tower is HUGE.” “The students are HAPPY.” Many adjectives are used as a predicate adjective, but they can also come before a noun.
The ORDER of adjectives is different, but the most common order is shown below.
1 - Determiner (e.g. a, an, the, every, four, her, our, those, that, several, some).
2 - Observation (e.g. real, perfect, beautiful, expensive, gorgeous, delicious beautiful).
3 - Size (e.g., big, little, enormous, large).
4 - Shape (e.g. round, square, long-stemmed, short).
5 - Age (e.g. young, old, new, antique, and ancient).
6 - Color (e.g., red, black, pale).
7 - Nationality (e.g. French, African, Canadian).
8 - Material (e.g. woollen, metallic, wooden).
9 - Qualifier: often regarded as part of the noun (e.g., touring, hat, hunting, basketball).
