Hello
A conditional is used when you want to express an idea which has a condition. There are two types of conditionals. It depends if you want to express a wish or a regret.
1) When you want to express a wish.
You have two subordinates, one with IF and when without IF. The part with IT is in the simple past, the part without IF is in the conditional.
Ex: If I had enough money (past), I would buy a big car (conditional).
2) When you want to express a regret.
One subordinate with If and one without IF. The part with IF is in plu-perfect, the part without IF in past conditional.
Ex: If he had known the truth, he would have explained the reasons of his behaviour.
Is that clear to you now?
Bye bye
