Je cherche un dictionnaire reprenant uniquement les verbes à particule séparable.
Quelqu'un peut-il me diriger ?

hi joy,i don't know if there is a dic of phrasal verbs ,but if you can't find it,write and i'll send you a long list ,hoping that will cater for your needs .

I checked out the phrasal dictionary you posted, andrew. I don't believe they fully understand the notion of the phrasal verb.

In a phrasal verb, there is another word, usually a preposition, that is part of the verb.

While "I ran into my sister," is not meant literally, there is no phrasal verb used here. The verb is "to run" and the word "into" is a separate preposition.

How can you tell if a preposition is part of a phrasal verb? In a phrasal verb, an object noun may, and an object pronoun must, go before the preposition. In a non-phrasal verb, the object must always follow the preposition.

Phrasal verb: "To make up"
"I made up the story." (correct)
"I made up it." (INcorrect)
"I made the story up." (correct)
"I made it up." (correct)

Non-phrasal verb: "To run"
"I ran into my mother." (correct)
"I ran into her." (correct)
"I ran my mother into." (INcorrect)
"I ran her into." (INcorrect)

Sometimes the same main verb and preposistion may be used, but the meaning differs depending on whether or not it's a phrasal verb.

Phrasal verb: "To run up"
"I ran up the total." (correct)
"I ran up it." (INcorrect)
"I ran the total up." (correct)
"I ran it up." (correct)

Non-phrasal verb: "To run"
"I ran up the hill." (correct)
"I ran up it." (correct)
"I ran the hill up." (INcorrect)
"I ran it up." (INcorrect)

As a matter of fact, when I was a student I worked on a very good dictionary of phrasal verbs. It is entitled ' International Dictionary of Phrasal Verbs' (Anglais / Français) CAMBRIDGE University Press
It gives you phrasal verbs in context with French translations.

Well, first of all it wasn't a dictionary...more just a game with separable verbs. Second, obviously I'm no linguist, but I considered "phrasal verbs" to be any verb that, in English, consists not of a single word but of a phrase--thus "phrasal". For example, "run into" is phrasal in English, but the translation in French (croiser) is a single word. I understand the difference in terms of placement of the object, but it's helpful to know which prepositions, when attached to which verbs, create a new meaning.
