Hi everybody! I need help
Could you please tell me the difference between a lot of (lots of) and many/much? Can we use them in the same situations?
Moreover, is it possible to say: What did you do during your last holidays? C'est "pendant tes vacances dernières" qui me pose problème. Est-ce possible d'utiliser "during" et "holidays" au pluriel?
In advance, thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!

Bonjour
Avant de poser une question, il serait judicieux de regarder dans le forum si elle ne vient pas d'être posée, ce qui est le cas ici pour l'une de vos questions.

Je suis allée voir dans le lien mais je n'ai toujours pas compris la différence entre a lot of et many/much. Il y a en effet des contradictions dans le lien. Par ailleurs, j'aimerais savoir s'il est possible de dire "during your last holidays"

I have read somewhere that many was mainly use in the interrogative or negative form and a lot of in positive form
Do you have many books ?
I have a lot of books.
But I'm not sure
Of course you must use them only for countable nouns !

Hello
Oui c'est juste during your last holiday mais holiday n'a pas de S
Voici une petite lecon concernant lot of, lots of,etc. J'espere que cela va vous aider
'There are lots of cars'.
We can also say:
'There are a lot of cars'.
The two forms mean exactly the same thing. Lots of is simply more informal than a lot of. They are more common than much or many in affirmative sentences.
You can use both expressions with singular (uncountable) or plural nouns. Just make sure your verb agrees if a lot of or lots of refer to the subject of your sentence. Have a look at these examples:
uncountable noun, singular verb:
'There's still lots of work to do.'
'A lot of time is wasted in meetings.'
plural noun, plural verb:
'A lot of people were affected by the storm.'
'There are lots of interesting things to do here.
In negative sentences or questions, you can use much, many or a lot of.
'much' with uncountable nouns
'I don't have much time.'
'How much does it cost?'
'many' with countable nouns
'I haven't seen many films this year.'
'Have you read many books in English?'
'a lot of' with countable or uncountable nouns
'I haven't seen a lot of films this year.'
'Have you read a lot of books in English?'
A lot of/lots of
Ces quantificateurs s'emploient dans des phrases affirmatives, avec des denombrables ou des indenombrables.
• Avec des denombrables :
He's got a lot of books.
There were lots of people in the shop.
• Avec des indenombrables :
He spends a lot of money on clothes.
Don't hurry, we've got lots of time.
2. Much (avec des indenombrables) et many (avec des denombrables) s'emploient d'ordinaire dans des phrases interrogatives ou negatives. On peut cependant les utiliser dans des phrases affirmatives.
• Much :
This job won't take much time.
Did you have much trouble finding our house?
• Many
Were there many people at the meeting?
I haven't got many books,
Many adults cannot read.
