Hello coralia57!
PARTIE 1
I don't know whether this is what you want,
but this is what seemed to make sense to me:
-- I didn't give her my phone number (b), but I know I should have. (1)
-- I had to give her my phone number (2), – so I did! (a)
-- I gave her my phone number (a), but I didn't have to. (3)
-- She wouldn't let me give her my phone number (4), so, I didn't insist and I didnt give it to her. (b)
PARTIE 2
In each sentence, I have "linked" the 2 parts to make sure it all makes sense...
I hope it does!
1) He can't have gone to hospital -- and --> b) I'm sure he didn't go.
2) he couldn't go to hospital -- so, --> c) he didn't go, because he wasn't able to.
3) He must have gone to hospital, -- in fact, --> a) I'm convinced he's gone!
4) He needn't have gone to hospital, -- of course, --> e) he went, but it was unnecessary.
5) He shouldn't have gone to hospital. -- As you know, --> d) he went, but it was a mistake to do so.
Thanks!
