Comment traduire -dont?
Message de marie11 posté le 05-03-2007 à 10:56:03 (S | E | F | I)

Bonjour.

He's the man whose wife owns the best restaurant in New York.

The house whose roof is too shaky will have to be pulled down.

Remarque :

They will never meet the couple whose child they're bringing up.

On traduira donc :
- I don't know the writers you are talking about.

- John Davis wrote five novels, the first of which when he was twenty-seven.

- Quite a few of my friends, most of whom are fellow students, prefer the mountains to the seaside.

- You should have seen the way they spoke to me.

- that's all I remember.

Traduire les phrases suivantes :

correction : lundi 12 mars 2007.

Hello

I'm glad my question drew your attention, even though it originally came from a complete blank in my mind! I'm gonna pretend many blanks from now on to get new exercices (no just kidding)

1- I introduce you Judith whose husband works with me.
2- The show Jenny was talking about is no longer aired.
3- How can I meet up a friend whose his adress I don't know?
4- I picked the applicant whose name is on this list.
5- France is a country whose culture I like.
6- The way he guessed (would guess (depending on the context)) my thoughts bugged me.
7- The crowd was waiting, perhaps more than a hundred people, over the half of whom were barefooted children.
8- The prisoner was thinking of a way to break out.
9- He'll tell you everything he remembers about the circumstances of the accident.
10- Pupils who were in my class in primary school? There still are a few of them that I can remember.

Thanks

Hello marie11
I'd like you to meet Judith whose husband I work with.
The programme Jenny was talking about is not on television any more.
How can I meet up with a friend whose address I don't know ?
I selected the candidate whose name appears on this list.
France is a country whose culture I like.
I didn't like at all his way he guessed my thoughts...
The crowd was waiting, perhaps one hundred people, half of them were barefooted children.
The prisoner was thinking about how he could escape.
He'll tell you everything he remembers about the accident circumstances.
The pupils who were in the same class as me at the primary school? I can still remember few of them.
Thank you.

Bonjour.

Voici quelques remarques :

1- This is ......
2- Have you met .....
3- May I introduce.....(to you).

II - Expression On/Off (the) air.──> passer / diffuser à la télévision à la radio.

On/Off(the)air : Broadcasting or not broadcasting on television or radio.

The programme was taken off the air over the summer.

Voici ma suggestion.

1- This is Judith, whose husband works with me.
2- The TV show Jenny was talking about is off the air now.
3- How can I find/locate a friend whose address I don't know ?
4- I've chosen/selected/picked the candidate whose name appears on this list.
5- France is a country whose culture I like.
6- The way he could guess my thoughts really upset me.
7- The crowd was waiting, maybe a hundred people, more than half of whom were bare-footed children.
8- The prisoner was thinking of the way he could escape.
9- He will tell you all he can remember of the circumstances of the crash.
10- Those who were my schoolmates in primary school ?
There are some that I still remember.

We met many women, none of whom had never ever heard of contraception.

He wrote several short stories, most of which were lost.

I met hundreds of people, some of whom were foreigners.

The town, one-third of which was destroyed during the war, has got a beautiful gothic church.
