1. She sang SUCH soothing lullabies that the baby was soon asleep.
2. He owned SO many books that his walls were lined with bookcases.
3. The boys were TOO excited to sit still.
4. He has SUCH varied interests, one never knows what he will do next.
5. They have SO few enemies, they are accepted wherever they go.
6. The snow was TOO deep for us to walk across the field.
7. Yesterday I walked SO far that I fell asleep immediately after supper.
8. I had SUCH a good time at the party, I did not want to leave.
9. I see her SO often that I feel I know her quite well.
10. The visibility was TOO poor for the mountains to be seen.
11. This is SUCH an interesting book, I stayed up all night to read it.
12. This puzzle is SO easy that a child could do it.
13. There was SO much traffic, I could not cross the street.
14. She was TOO tired to watch the video.
15. They have SO little furniture, it will be easy for them to move.

Les expression : Such ... That, So ... That, and Too
a. Such ... That
e.g. There was such a strong wind that we decided to stay indoors.

b. So ... That
e.g. The wind was so strong that we decided to stay indoors.
His marks are so high that he has applied for a scholarship.
The wind blew so fiercely that we decided to stay indoors.

ATTENTION :
En anglais informel, le mot "THAT" dans les expressions : such...that and so... that est souvent omis.
e.g. There was such a strong wind, we decided to stay indoors.
The moon was so bright, we could see for miles.

c. Too
e.g. It is too windy for us to go outside.
He is too poor to continue studying without a scholarship.
It was raining too hard for us to leave the house.

She sang SUCH soothing lullabies that the baby was soon asleep.

Merci, zen34

Réponse: re:So, such or too ? de marie37400, postée le 2004-11-24 20:30:46 (S | E)
Bonsoir Zen,
e.g : In such a persuasive way - d'une façon si convaincainte
He's such a nice boy - c'est un si genti garçon
Such excellent meals - de si bons plats

Anyway, THANKS EVER SUCH A LOT (je viens de découvrir l'expression grâce à toi !)
Marie

Bonsoir Marie!
There was so much traffic, I could not cross the street.
J'avais mis: There was too much traffic, I could not cross the street.

A bientôt.

Réponse: re:So, such or too ? de serena, postée le 2004-11-25 14:52:34 (S | E)
Bonjour !

1)
- On emploie so comme how, devant un adjectif seul ou un adverbe.
On a donc : SO + Adjectif / adverbe

Ex : How smart she is ! ==> She is so smart !
How fast he drives ! ==> He drives so fast !

- On emploie such comme what, devant un nom précédé ou non d’un adjectif.
On a ici : SUCH + ( a/an) ( + Adjectif ) + NOM.

Ex : What a smart lady ! ==> She is such a smart lady !
What nice jewels she has ! ==> She has such nice jewels !

There was so much traffic that I could not cross the street.

There was too much traffic and I could not cross the street.
