For,since avec le present perfect se traduisent par "depuis"
For est employé lorsque l'on considère la durée de l'action.
Since lorsque l'on considère le point de départ.

Ex:they have been selling this car for 3 years.
they have been selling this car since 2002.

Ils vendent cette voiture depuis 3 ans.
Ils vendent cette voiture depuis 2002.

2-Action terminée
Avec le preterit,for se traduit par "pendant"
I lived in Paris for 10 years.
J'ai vécu à Paris pendant 10 ans.

Today is 18th January 2005.
Réecrivez les phrases ci-dessous en mettant for à la place de since et since à la place de for.
1-Carol has been employed by our firm for 3 months.
2-John has been married since 2000.
3-He has been pestering this girl since 1985.
4-You have been studying English for 4 years.
5-I have been retired for 7 years.

1-Carol has been employed by our firm for 3 months.
She has been employed by our firm since December.

2-John has been married since 2000.
He has been married for 5 years.

3-He has been pestering this girl since 1985.
He has been pestering this girl for 10 years.

4-You have been studying English for 4 years.
I have been studying English since 2001.

5-I have been retired for 7 years.
You have been retired since 1998.

6-He has been drinking since 2000.
He has been drinking for 5 years.

7-I have been living in Paris for 10 years.
You have been living in Paris since 1995.

8-I learnt English at school for 7 years.
Here, I thing it's impossible to put since with a present perfect, because there isn't any connection with the present no more (it was when you were younger)

Without more details, it’s impossible to use « since » in this case

Cette phrase me semble être fausse. Si j'apprends l'anglais depuis 98 celà veut dire que je l'apprends toujours. donc :
I've been learning English since 1998. OU BIEN
I know English now. I learnt it during seven years.

Peut-on imaginer que dans certains cas l'action soit terminée ? Alors voilà ce que cela pourrait donner - mais je n'en suis pas sûre :

1- Carol has been employed by our firm since her marriage.

2- john was married for five years. He got divorced two years ago.

3- He pestered this girl for twenty years. Now she has left home.

4- I have been studying English since I was a child

5- I have been retired since the end of 1998

6- He drunk for 10 years. Now he is very sober, he drinks only water.

7- I have been living in Paris since the day I got married. I still live there.

8- I have been learning English since I was a child.... (impossible autrement)

As regards question 8,It was a trick question.
I learnt English at school for 7 years.
The action is finished so since in this sentence doesn't take the place of for.
You are good at English,It's the main thing.

for U(n-2)/U(n-1), if the limit exists and is finite, it will be the solution of
lim = 1 / (1+lim) therefore the solution of lim² + lim -1 = 0 and
so the solutionis (-1+square root(5))/2 = 0.618033988

I think the golden number (also called the golden ratio) is (sqr(5)+1)/2. This number has the property that its reciprocal is one less than itself.

For some reason, rectangles whose sides are in this proportion are considered "most beautiful".

(here "sqr" means "square root")

P.S. I have just noticed that the number you mentioned is in fact the reciprocal of the golden number!
