Je vous propose de traduire une petite partie de la pièce :
"The importance of being earnest".
Jack : J'aime Gwendolen. Je suis venu à Londres tout exprès pour lui demander de m'épouser.
Algernon : Je te croyais venu pour le plaisir ? Moi, une demande en mariage, j'appelle ça des affaires.
Jack : Tu es un être totalement dénoué de romantisme !
Algernon : Je ne vois vraiment rien de romantique dans une demande en mariage. Etre amoureux, voilà qui est romantique ; mais il n'y a rien de romantique dans une proposition ferme de mariage. Tiens, on peut être accepté. On l'est, je crois, en général. Et alors le grand frisson c'est terminé. L'essence même de l'idylle romantique, c'est l'incertitude. Si jamais je me marie, je m'efforcerai certainement de l'oublier.
