J'ai fait erreur dans le titre du 'post' : il ne s'agit pas d'un QCM!
* Est-ce possible de réparer?

So, here we go !
1- Christopher Columbus discovered America more than 400 years ago.
2- He hasn’t spoken for over a month.
3- I haven’t seen her since Friday.
4- Do you know I’ve lived here lately?
5- I worked in the Post Office from 1990 to 1999.
6- I was able to speak English when I was younger. I no longer can.
7- I’ve been able to speak English since the age of 11.
8- They got married before I did. Remember, she was wearing a very funny little hat.
9- He read the letter, stood up, went to his desk, took a pen and began to write.
10- Has he finished writing? - No, not yet.
11- She has only written to me once in a year : I am very surprised.
12- 'The prisoner escaped - Has he? What can we do?
13- Help! the prisoner has escaped.
14- Don't worry, I saw him while I was doing my jogging this morning.
15- Where have you seen him? Or Where did you see him ?
16- I saw it near the bridge. Have you been already there?
17- No, we haven’t ! He 's dangerous.
18- When did you notice the prisoner had escaped?
19- When we had a look at the clock it was about 11 a.m.
20- We have always known this would happen one day.'

e.g : Who hit you ? Preterit pour les détails
Who has hit you ?

I'm looking forward for the explanations. Many thanks in advance,
Have a great weekend,
Marie

20- We have always known this would happen one day.
- I'm not going again. I've seen Titanic three times already.
- lucile, tu me diras... (j'ai déménagé là encore! )
**2ème remarque : pour l'erreur à la phrase N° 16 : I saw him et non it.
N°12: The prisoner has escaped! = pas de repère temporel dans le passé=> bilan + il y avait en indice la reprise 'Has he?' ('Ah, bon? Qu'est-ce que nous pouvons faire?'). Mais cet indice n'était pas obligatoire.
N°13: Help! The prisoner has escaped!
N°15: Where did you see him?
=> Pour celui qui pose la question, le témoin venant de dire quand il l'a vu (I saw him while I was jogging this morning), il est evident qu'il doit reprendre le prétérit: c'est le témoin lui-même qui place le fait de 'voir' (saw) dans un passé daté et terminé.
N°17: A une question 'Have you already been there?, la logique des réponses courtes impose ici 'No, we haven't'.
*No,(le 'haven't' est zappé), we didn't go there... + un marqueur de temps précis pour situer l'action dans le passé et la dégager de tout lien avec le présent=> we didn't go there three minutes ago, but we'll go if you come with us!
Ah, s'il avait dit : Do you know I (live) here 3 years ago ou in 2003, c'était le prétérit! lived
N°18: When did you notice the prisoner had escaped?
*When did you noticed (= notice) the prisoner had escaped?
-N° 3 : I haven't seen her since Friday.
=> He read the letter.., he stood up, went to his desk, took a pen and began to write.
-N°17: Réponse courte qui reprend la question 16 => No, we haven't.
-N°11: Present perfect>She has only written to me once in a year' :
See you soon!

isa.
I saw him...'=> When did you notice the prisoner had escaped?
pour le reste!
A bientôt.

Hello,
non please Jardin, ne me hais pas en lisant ce qui suit;

* Avec cet exemple-ci, il n'y aurait pas eu d' hésitation je pense :
- I'm not going again. I've seen Titanic three times already.
tout à fait d'accord avec toi, il n'y a aucun doute sur l'emploi du present perfect; ..........mais.......pour revenir à la 20.........et dans le contexte de cette même phrase.....le verbe "savoir" est un peu spécial car à un moment X on ne sait pas, et à un moment Y on sait, ce qui me pousse à dire que ce qui est arrivé "one day" est passé et daté et sert de référence au fait qu'on l'a toujours su, d'où mon preterit pour ces 2 raisons;
"to know" dans le sens de "rencontrer" ne serait pas aussi compliqué;
Je ne tiens pas à avoir raison à tout prix, rassure toi et ton excellente explication m'avait presque convaincue, mais ça me trotte dans la tête depuis ce matin et ce "we have always known"" ne me plait pas
Bon , je vois que tu me hais !!!
See you soon

bé non! au contraire!
I've always known- I always knew - this would happen one day...I mean... I've always known- I always knew- I would be cornered one day or another
- Hi idem!
Ben dame!
When did you notice the prisoner had escape?
Alors tant mieux.
