Voici votre petite histoire drôle tant attendue. Régalez-vous!

Trois hommes dans une nacelle.
Un pilote remarqua une mongolfière qui avait l'air d'appartenir à un poste de combat de la Royal Air Force à proximité. Il informa le poste immédiatement, mais personne la-bàs n'était en mesure d'expliquer le mystère. L'officier dans la tour de contrôle était très en colère lorsqu'il entendit la nouvelle, car les ballons peuvent représenter un grand danger pour les avions. Il declara qu'il se pourrait que quelqu'un soit en en train d'espionner le poste et on ordonna au pilote de suivre la trace de l'étrange objet.
Le pilote réussit à encercler le ballon pendant un certain temps. Dessous, Il a pu distinguer trois hommes dans une nacelle et l'un d'entre eux tenait des jumelles. Au moment où le ballon se trouvait au-dessus du poste de combat, le pilote vit un des hommes prendre des photos.
Peu après, le ballon commença à descendre et atterrit près d'un aérodrome. On fit appel à la police, mais elle ne pouvait arrêter personne car la nacelle contenait deux membres du Parlement ainsi que le Commandant du poste!
Comme l'a expliqué plus tard le Commandant, une moitié du poste n'avait aucune idée de ce que l'autre moitié faisait!!!!

The pilot succeeded in encircling the balloon during some time.
He could see under it, three men in a nacelle and one of them was handing binoculars. At the moment where the balloon was standing over the combat post, the pilot saw one of the men taking some photos.
A few minutes later, the balloon landed and grounded near an airfield.
The police were called but they weren't able to arrest anybody because two members of the parliament and the Commandant of the post were in the nacelle !
As the Commandant explained later
, half of the post had no idea that the other was doing !Aïmen -

Vous vous en sortez tous pas mal. J'avoue que c'est un peu dur et assez long, mais courage les autres. La difficulté vient du vocabulaire cette fois pas de la grammaire.

Avant de proposer des thèmes aux membres du site qui s'y soumettent avec bravoure et gentillesse, il est évident que fais très attention à la concordance des temps dans les textes en français que je propose. Notamment l'utilisation de l'imparfait et du passé simple de l'indicatif qui sont deux temps à manier avec précaution dans le récit. Je me permet de vous dire que je ne suis pas d'accord avec les modifications que vous voulez apporter à mon texte.

Bonjour Anon,
Je me permets d'intervenir ici (excuse moi Aimen ) pour dire qu'en traduisant ce texte français en anglais je n'ai pas été choquée par l'emploi des verbes utilisés; "Dessous, Il a pu ......il put " est à l'extrême limite la seule modification que l'on pourrait "chipoter" dans la mesure où l'on.... oserait éventuellement se le permettre ! ce que je ne ferai jamais.
Dans ta traduction par contre je vois :" for balloons could account for a great danger" ce qui constitue une faute car en français le présent est employé et tu traduis avec le preterit, or ce danger est toujours d'actualité et le présent convient parfaitement.
Il est plus facile de traduire un texte que d'en inventer un ou d'en trouver un et de suivre les corrections que l'on soumet aux membres du site. A ce titre Aimen a beaucoup de mérite et je la soutiens totalement.

, tu n'aurais pas dû réécrire ton texte mais simpleent éditer à l'aide du E.-To belong TO...
-...no one WAS able to...
-To succeed IN +verb+ing.
L'avant dernière phrase est incomplète et tu l'as reliée à la précédente
-Pourquoi ne pas utiliser MIGHT (qui exprime la probabilité) dans la phrase "Il se pourrait que quelqu'un soit en train d'espionner le poste."
-Espionner, to spy ON.
(On reviendra longuement sur cette phrase à la correction vendredi.)

-Dessous: Under--Below=au-dessous.
-Peu après: Soon afterwards, shortly afterwards, After a while, A little later, some time later...
-Un poste de combat: An action station, a station.
-Atterrir: To land, décoller(to take off).
-Un aerodrome: an airfield, an aerodrome.
-"Le pilote réussit à encercler le ballon": Managed to circle(manoeuvrer avec success, réussir après des efforts), succeeded in circling.
-To keep track of: Conserver un suivi, donc surveiller, suivre la trace de.

He could see, he could distinguish, he was able to make out...
Grammaire:
A-"Because balloons CAN be a great danger to aircraft: Présent car vérité générale.

Deux autres possibilités ont été proposées, grammaticalement correctes mais qui à mon sens sont maladroites:
1)He declared (that) it would be possible that someone could be spying on the station. Il déclara qu'il serait possible que quelqu'un pourrait être en train d'espionner la station.
L'éventualité ou la possibilité (que quelqu'un soit en train d'espionner) est émise deux fois. Avec "would" qui implique que quelque chose pourrait arriver, puis avec "could" qui implique que quelque chose est possible.
2)He declared (that) it would be possible that someone was spying on the station. Il déclara qu'il serait possible que quelqu'un fût en train d'espionner le poste. Ici le conditionnel est suivi d'un subjonctif imparfait.
Au moment où l'officier parle l'action est en cours, en conséquence le présent est requis après "that". Pour les deux cas 1) et 2), je dirais plutôt:
-He said it would be possible that someone is spying on the station. Ou bien, He said it would be possible that someone be spying on the station.
A ne pas confondre avec: He declared it was possible that someone was spying on the station(Il déclara qu'il était possible que quelqu'un fût en train d'espionner...) qui correspond au style direct à: He declared, "it is possible that someone is spying on the post.".
Vos avis et commentaires sur ce dernier point de grammaire C, en particulier sont les bienvenus, car je ne suis pas très sûre de certaines choses que j'avance.

A mon avis toutes les propositions sont grammaticalement correctes ; mais……pourquoi ne pas faire simple quand c’est possible comme ici ? et dire :
-He declared that someone might be spying on the station.
ou mieux encore :
-He declared someone might be spying on the station
sachant que lorsqu’on peut économiser un mot en anglais il ne faut pas hésiter ; les autres constructions sont correctes mais beaucoup trop lourdes et aucun anglais ne se risquerait à les dire ;
C'est mon opinion, tu en auras peut-être d'autres

Tu as raison lucile, dans la traduction ou l'expression écrite, il faut avoir le réflexe d'utilier ce que l'on connait bien du point de vue grammatical(une tournure, un auxiliaire modal...). Il faut éviter de traduire mot à mot car le résultat est souvent lourd et maladroit.
L'expression "it would be possible..." ou plutôt "would it be possible...", serait plus utile cependant dans le questionnement sur une possibilité, donc dans une forme interrogative:
"Serait-il possible que...?" qui est différent de "Il se pourrait que...", sens rendu par "might be".(qui décrit une éventuelle possibilité)
Ex:"Would it be possible to travel back through time?" ou, "I wonder if it would be possible to travel back through time."
ou bien, "Would it be possible for you to look at the enclosed questionnaire", ou encore, I should be grateful if it would be possible for you to look at the enclosed questionnaire."
