Message de grabuge posté le 04-09-2005 à 17:08:17 (S | E | F | I)
Hello,
9. Voudriez-vous demander à John de venir me voir ?

1 What pieces of advice would you give him/her ?
2 What pieces of advice would you have given him/her ?
3 You should apologize. If I were you, I would (do so).
4 I'd rather not give my opinion if you don't mind.
5 She prefers not to know the truth.
6 We'd rather spend our holiday in Switzerland, but it would be too expensive for us.
7 What would you rather be, a king or a beggar ?
8 If they both came, there would be an incident.
9 Would you ask John to come and see me ?
10 You shouldn't worry, in your place I wouldn't.

Good evening everybody,
Grabuge, may I tell you a joke? Well, I precise I read this joke on an American Website: mathematicians are like Frenchmen! As a matter of fact, whatever you say to them, they translate it into their own language, and forthwith it means something entirely different...
1. What advice would you give him?
2. What advice would you have given to her?
3. You should apologize. If I were you, I would apologize.
4. I would prefer not to give my opinion if that doesn't mind you.

7. What would you prefer to be, a king or a beggar?
8. If they came both, there would be an incident.
9. Would you be as kind as to ask John to come and see me?
10. You shouldn't worry, in your place I wouldn't.
Thank you a lot. See you soon.

Bonjour Grabuge,
Euh !
A te lire ?
Cordialement.

Hello,
1. Quels conseils lui donneriez-vous ?
What advice would you give him ?
Advice = conseils - piece of advice = un conseil
2. Quels conseils lui auriez-vous donnés ?
What advice would you have given to him ?
3. Tu devrais t'excuser. A ta place, je m'excuserais.
You ought to (= should) apologize. I should apologize (If I were you)
I'd prefer not to give (= I'd rather not give) my opinion, If you don't mind.
5. Elle préfère ne pas savoir la vérité.
She prefers not to know the truth.
We'd rather spend our holidays in Switzerland but that would be too expensive for us. (= but we couldn't afford it).
7. Que préfèreriez-vous être, roi ou mendiant ?
Which would you rather be, a king or a beggar ?
If they both came, there would be an incident.
9. Voudriez-vous demander à John de venir me voir ?
Would you ask John to come and see me ?
You shouldn't worry, I shouldn't worry (If I were you).
Merci pour votre participation et à bientôt...
