Bonjour à tous
lorque l'on dit :
il se pourrait qu'il gagne: on traduit par Might et non Could
He might win. (correcte)
He could win. (non correcte)
Pouquoi utilise ton might à la place de could ?
Merci Beaucoup

Hello !
Les deux formes sont correctes ; le degré de certitude est moindre avec "might".

That's interesting, willy, because if one said "he might lose" (the unthinkable) the degree of certainty is the expectation he is going to win!

I think "might" expresses a stronger probablity than "could". "Could" is used to say that something is not completely impossible.
- Team A could still make the playoffs if they beat Team B, Team C beats Team D and Team E beats Team F by more than 3 points.
- You never know; I could win the lottery.
"Might", while acknowledging that a certain event is unlikely (or, more precisely, not necessarily likely), nevertheless emphasizes that the possibility should not be ignored.
- We might go on vacation to Reunion this summer; it depends on whether we find cheap enough plane tickets.
- We need to clean the house completely; otherwise, our parents might find out that we had a party here while they were gone.
That said, it is true that "might" and "could" are more or less interchangeable. If I replaced "might" with "could" (and vice versa) in the above sentences, they would all still make sense.
