First he used to be a mason whereas now he is jobless and have any money.He may have had a steady income .Since then he is starting from scratch.However he looked for a Job . Finally he held a job for six weeks at a pizza joint.

First he used to live in a comfortable house with a bathroom.Whereas now he lives in a hoise street near subways and he wash himself in a public rest room .In this situation he could clean these teeth with his forefinger.

He may have had a steady income .Since then he is had been starting from scratch. (à cause du since) However he looked for a Job . Finally he held a job for six weeks at a pizza joint.

However, he has looked for a job. ~~Finally~~ Once he held a job for six weeks at a pizza joint. (ou bien, s'il a ce boulot encore, He has held a job at a pizza joint for the last six weeks.)
