hello dear Forum,
J'ai une question à laquelle je ne trouve pas de réponse:
Je souhaiterais dire:
Tu dois être très triste pour te comporter comme ça/de la sorte (il se comporte mal)
Et j'aimerais employer le verbe behave:
You must be sad to behave like this....Can we say that?
I know we can say...to act like this
Thank you

Hello cecilsproject,
"You must be very sad to behave this way/to have such a behaviour."
"Sadness makes you act this way/behave this way/like this."
ou encore, "You have such a bahaviour/an attitude maybe/probably because you're sad."
J'espère que cela t'aidera.

Hello, I'm Katy, and I speak English as a first language...
It's really hard to translate that sentence... ,"Tu dois être très triste pour te comporter comme ça/de la sorte (il se comporte mal)" I don't totally understand the context, because I just have that one sentence, to go on, but I'll try...
I would say...
It must make you sad when you think about how badly you have been behaving.
It must make you sad to have behaved that way.
You must feel bad about behaving so badly.
You must feel bad about your behaviour.

Bonjour ,

Hi englishgirl
Yeah here is the context: it's a man who is not happy with his life and maybe bitter so sometimes he has a bad behaviour
But he is not sad because he did something wrong No second thoughts here!
He is sad and lost so sometimes he "means" to harm
thanks to all of you for your answers
But I'm not really sure of my sentence:
You must be sad (or feel so low) to behave like this
bye

Hi there, it's me again, Katy, I'm a native English speaker...
Okay, I understand better now.
"You must be sad to behave like this." - okay, I understand what you are saying.
It's one of those sentences that could have double meanings. It's one of those sentences that are not very clear, especially when written rather than spoken.
You could make it more clear by saying:
"You must be feeling really sad, to behave like this."
At first I thought you meant that someone was regretting their actions.
from Katy
