Hello,
A l'initiative du webmaster, "les histoires sans fin" sont à nouveau autorisées sur les forums . Voici donc celle proposée par stefke, à vous de la continuer .

Dernier post copié-collé ici ; merci de reprendre le minimum de texte chaque fois pour poursuivre l'histoire.

Do you know what I would like ? I would like to wake up from this nightmare and come back home. I’m so tired and without hope about this awful situation !!!
- This is why I tried to come fast with my team of five ; our first priority is the mine clearing we must make an evaluation of the surface they cover , how many of them could be still active and what kind of dirty trick we have to face . I had send two guys of my team already ; from the report that they gave me, it seems that those filths were just covering a small area , but unfortunately the ones that exploded were just in a crowded place . It would be a miracle if we don't find anymore of them it could mean that it was a forgotten stock from an old conflict .
There are fourteen other crew members coming soon , for the moment they are trying to repair the road to make it easier to bring heavier equipment ; they shouldn't be very long now . What a pity we couldn't have the help of choppers .

Five big trucks, loaded with all sort of equipement preceded by a heavy loader and excavator, just appeared behind the plam trees and stopped just close to the two men standing in the dust, the smoke of fuel oil coming from the exhaus pipes and an incredible" noise" which, for the ears of the tired surgeon was like a loud song of hope after all the misery and all the problems they had to face since they arrived here .
The Surgeon looked at a little (petit bout de femme : stub of woman ? ) jumping out of the enormous truck parked just on his left ; she walked toward them and salute
- Hi ! Sir Howard ; finally we made it .

While on the site everything was starting to get organized , at home" Lee Andrée " listening some soft music, was deeply plunged in her homework ; it was a useful way for her to forget a time, that her father was far away ; she also knew that if she wanted to have a chance to succeed in her study "work" was the word . she did follow the expression from her father ( what you do today , won't have to be done tomorrow )
The phone rang !
- Yes ! Tontooon ? She could see on the number which appeared oh the screen, that Jim was on the other end of the line .
She always had a smile thinking about the amount of muscle taking care of his so delicate flower garden .He was fond of orchids and some of them were real beauties .One day, he succeed in bringing thirty kids to a summer camp where they could canoo, play on the water slides and swim . They stood with no voice when they visit a place full of beautiful flowers , and where butterflies of all sort could just alight on their hands for an moment .They were all coming from countries where there was some big trouble and for a time they could forget their ordinary life made of fear, listening explosions and bullets whisteling to their ears .Thanks to him that for a time they could see some other things than the stupidity of souls lost in the expression of their blind wildness .
- How's doing the little" Lotus Flower" today ?

At the same moment , Wendy ; after her working day finished and a quick tour to the shopping center, was taking a refreshing shower before looking at the info on T.V and to pounce on one of her favorite meal ; a mixed salad with many sorts of vegetables , cheese , and slices of smoked salmon all that sprinkled with a mix of olive oil and fresh lemon juice plus some other ingredients which, she will never give you the recipe . She came out from the shower, dried herself and dressed with just a light piece of multicolored tissue tied around her neck , She went into the living room to water all her flowers ; but before , she turned the stereo on and played a laser to listen to what she calls
" My forest wander ", a laser on which there are only noises of birds songs, light wind in the leaves of trees, and water falls or small wells runnig and springing on the rocks . when you were listening all these sounds with your eyes closed, the stereo stystem was so well tuned, that you really could imagine yourself lying in the middle of a glade close of a river by a sunny afternoon in the summer time .

Each one of them was shredded. Oh no! she said. She thought about Lee Andree. How could I tell her what happened to her father? She become so agitated, she couldn't imagine to spend the rest of her life without him. She cried for a moment and woke up...

It is funny sometimes how some dreams can follow you for a day or two and leave you interrogative . Howard , around the same period had also a kind of dream which look like Lee Andrée 's . He was at home quiet , reading a book , when a fire took place from nowhere and some flames coming out of this fire were trying to reach him ; strangely, he was not afraid and he was not trying to estinguish it and most of all ,everytime he was walking toward this fire it was becoming less strong but enfolded him with a sweet tempered heat .
He talked about that dream once with Alex ; for sure he could remember that she had a big smile on her face before to answer .
- Love ! Sir Howard ; Love knocks at your door , and you are going to overcome to the charm of that lucky person .
But for the moment he had too much things grabbing his attention, and forgot what she said .

It is funny sometimes how some dreams can follow you for a day or two and leave you interrogative . Howard , around the same period had also a kind of dream which look like Lee Andrée 's . He was at home quiet , reading a book , when a fire took place from nowhere
and some flames coming out of this fire were trying to reach him ; strangely, he was not afraid and he was not trying to estinguish it and most of all everytime he was walking toward this fire it was becoming less strong but enfolded him with a sweet tempered heat .
He talked about that dream once with Alex ; for sure he could remember that she had a big smile on her face before to answer .
- Love ! Sir Howard ; Love knocks at your door , and you are going to overcome to the charm of that lucky person .

Howard took the oportunity that the jounalist was there with a camera to show to the world the devastating effects of the tiny little mines spreaded blindly anywhere on the ground , and making a deadly walk for a kid, just to go to the well,to bring some fresh water back home ; lie on the grass, or just play with other kids plus some other effects on the economy of a country, and the life of the people who have to deal with these pitfalls .

Effectivement Lucile a raison. La longueur des posts prend beaucoup de ressources sur le site + décourage les membres qui aimeraient participer + va à l'encontre d'une dynamique de spontanéïté + est incorrigeable en l'état car ce topic n'est pas le seul travail que nous ayons

I think that the most important thing that he is alive even he looks very tired ! He needs to have some vacation and to rest in another area to bee free and quiet without any problem.

Est-ce qu'il y a encore des personnes intéressées à poursuivre cette histoire? Il ne faut surtout pas oublier qu'au départ, cela devait être une histoire sans fin. Je crois qu'il est un peu tôt pour abandonner, n'est-ce pas?
Le plus important, c'est un très bon moyen d'améliorer notre anglais. Peu importe les fautes que nous commettons, ne laissons pas passer cette chance et osons continuer.

After their conversation, Howard entered the camp to see his assistant Bryan. He wanted to ask him to stay there a few weeks more and to be in charge of the volunteers. According to Howard, Bryan was his best choice. He was going to take his retirement a few months later and he was single without any child.

Howard called the high commandant. He told her (as she was a girl) the all the team members were very tired by the mission, that himself was beginning to feel old for the job, that Alex had to go back straight at home because of her father and that he had then, nobody to look after the team but himself. But he definitely didn't want to stay and as he was influential, and had a great length of service, he convinced the commandant to send another crew. That's how Howard saved the situation and permitted that his whole team go back with the first plane.

A big number of them fly at the same moment to try to find some food , and one of them had been swallowed by the reactor . It is often a danger for the airplanes landing or taking off , we have some equipement to solve this kind of problem on the land strip,like hawks, or lights and noise or imitate the sound of an injured bird, but this time we were too far over the sea we couldn't do anything against it .

All the crew members stood in a special room at the airport to have a breifing , and after an hour of report and discusions of all sorts ; every body was freed and went back to their own life . In the bus wich was bringing back every one of them , nobody was talking .
It was like beeing silent, little by little , each of them was taking the time to enjoy the moment of their coming back to a normal life , and apreciate every second of it ; as a diver who went for a deep dive and have to decompress slowly before come back to the surface .

Behind the wooden fence that he had built not too high , everyone could see the little path running to the front door, with on both side some primerose and behind , the daffodils yellow as the sun enlighting them with their flowers bending over . The cherry tree on the right side was blooming like it never did before ; it was like all the place was waiting for him ; like the nature itself knew before anybody , that he was coming back home and welcome him in a wonderfull exuberance of colours and scents. He opened the little gate and slowly walked toward the house .

-She was very curious and didn't want to miss any word they were telling each other. She was seriously looking at them hoping a positive answer from Wendy. She could see how happy she was when her father came back. They hadn't stop speaking about him while he was away. Moreover, Wendy admitted that she was in love with him. She was also old enough to realize that they had seen each other just a few times. She preferred Wendy not to be in a hurry to make the right decision.

Lee Andrée, who , for a while had not moved anything else than her eyelid, started to squirm , eagerly waiting for the question from her father and most of all the " answer " from Wendy , That : "I have to tell you something" had induced a pain in her stomach , caused by some bad memories coming back suddenly to her mind .She jumped from the couch and rushed to the kitchen .
- I am thirsty; I need a glass of juice ! Does somebody want one ? she asked just to brake the silent interlude which had followed the last word " something " .

As nobody answered to her question , Lee Andrée opened the refrigator served herself a huge glass of orange juice, and went up stairs as she finally decide to drink it quietly in her bedroom . She opened the window, and sat on the shelf .
Her gaze came to rest on the wonderful cherry tree covered with fine flowers ;the sight of all the flowers and the scent was a real treat , after all the events of the last months .

I wonder if she had reported the disappearance of her husband to the police. They could have helped her.'

"All was so sudden, I haven't had enough time to tell you about my situation and I waited for your return to do it. Of course, I have reported my husband missing to the police but up to now without result. I have also engaged a private detective ; my husband was last heard of in France but we don't have any address for the moment"...

Howard took a big inspiration , and sight . He had to deal with so many complicated situations these last months, and hope for a relief on his way back home , and also how he was going to propose to Wendy ; he had forgotten that in his civilisation,things could also be complicated . He also realised, that he could have bought a ring maybe or a wonderful bouquet of roses ; there were so many ways ...
A loud voice was heard at the entrance , as someone was walking in .
- Anybody alive here ? Am I allowed in ? I knocked three times ; the door was opened , I could hear people talk, but there was no answer .

"What's happened to her? You seem so preoccupied by something...," said Wendy.
"It's not exactly the best day to talk about it... but you're my friends and I really need to tell someone...
Obviously, Wendy, you haven't met my wife Helen yet. She has been sick for three months and yesterday, her doctor gave us the results of the exams. She's suffering from pancreas cancer" he said with difficulty.

- You shouldn't pronounce his name here , said Jim . Yes ! he is always there ; but we can't talk about it here and first let us enjoy this particular moment . How was it overthere ?
- Quite hard as usual I could say ; but this time we had to deal with a lot of different situations .
As we did solve a problem, an other one was coming just behind . A lot of people around, the heat, no water , no power, and huges amount of concrete and reinforcing bars sharp enough to hurt your eyes or your hands ; all this every day one after the other during weeks .We also had to built a road to reach one of the site . We were all happy when we could see the end of it . About the mines , it was particularely tricky ; we didn't know where they were, and what kind of mines it was . but the experience and a wonderful team made the difference and the mission successful . Finally we are all back and in good health .

They talked happily for a long time. Then, Jim left and the three others got to bed.
In their beds, they were thinking about all the things that had been going on that evening.
Lee André was enjoying the fact that his father was back at home. But in the same time she felt pitiful for Jim's wife.
Wendy was thinking about Howard's hasty proposal and his disapeared husband.
Howard was regreting his proposal to Wendy. 'It was much too soon' he said to himself. But in the same time he felt he wouldn't have been able to refrain from doing it. He also thought about Jim's wife and wished that she would heal quickly.

-Learning that news about Jim's wife had been a great surprise for everyone. Nobody was able to sleep. Wendy got up, went to the kitchen and drank some warm milk. She wondered why Howard had asked Jim if Ray Kennedy was still in France? Did Howard want to hire him to investigate about her disappeared husband? "Could I keep hoping on again?" she thought...
After having heard some noise, Howard went down the stairs and saw her.
"Hi Wendy! It's easy to guess you couldn't sleep too. What were you thinking? Would you like to talk about it?"

She thought that maybe she shouldn't have accepted to spend the night at Howard's ; but it was so late when they decided to go to bed that Lee Andrée had insisted her to stay and sleep in her bedroom .
It was still very early in the morning, when Wendy came to the kitchen ; as at home she used to live alone, she didn't mind to walk around naked as she was living at the third floor with no neighbours in front , and the heavy curtains well closed . She was glad that Lee Andrée had lend her a long T shirt long enough to hide her knees , but a little bit transparent, she was feeling very
unconfortable , in front of a man who was so attractive to her ,and at the same time the education she recieved when she was young
was telling her to calm down and wait for an other moment more adequat for a real conversation . She almost ran upstairs to brake away that fight happening in her mind now. She was almost arrived on the last step before she answered .
- I am sorry Howard ! "she said with a strange tone in her voice " Let us talk about this later now I have to go back to bed .

He must be wrong... I cannot accept it... I need Helen beside me, I don't want her to die now, she's only 37 years old." He couldn't help crying...

At the sight of his friend crying ; freind who he knew to be so tough, when they were working often in the worst conditions you could imagin , but always of a good cheer ; Howard for a few seconds felt the world vanishing under his feet .
- Jim ! you know that where there is life there is hope ; don't give up ! It is possible that they could help her with a surgery, or an other treatment more efficient .
For half an hour , Howard tried to cheer him up , and lead their conversation to something different . Finaly after a while, he saw a smile apearing on Jim's face .

When he saw that smile, he felt so relieved. Jim had been his best friend for a very long time. They had shared so many things! Seeing him crying had been really tough for him. He kept reassuring him all the day. Then, Howard went back home with Lee André and Wendy went back at her home. In the car, Howard was thinking...

Three years ago my aunt died from a pancreas cancer. She decided to see a doctor when her skin and whites of her eyes became yellow. After several relevant medical tests, she was told about that diagnosis. It was too late for her, there wasn't anymore things to do. The worst happened three months later, she died in my uncle's arms.
When Lee-Andree saw her thoughtful father, she told him: "Go to bed Dad, you can't do anything tonight."

At the time , Wendy back home , manage to keep busy in order to escape to all the pictures which were coming to her mind .
The week-end spent at howard's , and the visit at Jim's had been a special moment for her , a little bit trying as since her husband
was gone , she used to live as a bachelor, free of her actions and her time . Her also, now ; was fighiting between the feeling she had for that man ,and the life that she would have as a wife . She watered all her flowers in the house ,went in the bathroom and filled the bathtub where she had put scent and as usual too much soap ; When she came back , the tub was almost overfilled and the foam was looking like a" soufflé" just going out of the oven. - just on time ! she thought ; she nervously throwed her cloths on the floor, put slowly a foot in the tub to see if the water was at the good temperature , and lied in the hot relaxing bath with a" Hmmmmmm ! " Her head rising just above the perfumed foam .

Jim, comforted by Howard was taking information. He had once heard of a doctor, specialist of pancreas illness. But he lived Germany. So he had to check a lot of things before perhaps going to Germany with his ill wife.

-He decided to search on internet and he discovered many articles about that disease. He completely read them and he saw there were a few specialists. One of them was Dr. Henksnort and he was German.
Afterwards, he called his secretary and asked her if he could make and appointment. "Let me see...Sir", she said in a bad English. "Why do you want to see Dr. Henksnort?"
"We've just heard that my wife Helen was suffering from a pancreas cancer. We'd like to know if the doctor could do something to heal her".
"Oh! you cannot waste your time, where do you live? " she asked.
"We live in France, I know it's far from Germany but we could go".
"What about next Friday at eleven o'clock"?
"It's OK, we will be there".

She was nestled under the white puff of her bed , and the only thing that we could see was just one or two green tufts of hair which she had died last week . It was like two or three blades of grass coming out of the snow from an early winter fall . Howard was not very fond of the habit she had to change the colour of her hair so often ;and he was always trying to argue against it, but the little rebel as a lot of youngsters was always turning a deaf ear to her father's advices . She wrapped the puff around her body,let herself slip out of the bed and went down stairs with sleepy eyes , shambeling and yawning . She sat heavily on the couch, and asked ;
- Did someone phone Dad ? I have heard you talk just a few minutes ago .

- Yes it was Jim ; He found the adress of a toubib who could may be do something to heal his wife ; I know he will do anything he can to save her . They should be in Germany next thursday to have a chek up friday morning . I hope that this doctor will be able to do something ; this kind of diseases always drive me nuts , you can see your love ones like if they were drawning in front of you , and the only thing you can do is watching them going down to the bottom without beeing able to even throw a life jacket . I faced it one day I can tell you that it is a very painful situation . Sometimes it takes years before you can heal that pain of losing your heart .
Lee Andrée was sitting in the couch as usual her arms tied around her legs and her chin lying on her knees; as she had put the puff around her head like a hood , the only thing that Howard could see was the face of his daughter and her eyes looking still sleepy but despite the look she had at that moment , he kew that she was" all ears" and concetrated like a cat ready to jump on a bird .

Wendy ; who last night almost felt asleep in the bathtub, had finally felt in her bed ans slept like a log untill the morning .
Today, she was back at work and somewhere she was glad about it , as for a while she had the feeling to be like a fish out of water .
She needed to have a good hindsight , to have a quiet and clear reflection about all the events which happened during those last weeks .
- Dad ! where is Rex?
Howard had been waiting for that question for a while , but untill now as nobody had made any allusion about Rex, he forgot to mention it .
- Rex is dead ! Answered Howard starring at his daughter . It was hurt so badly a long time ago after an explosion , that it was amazing that he could live so long . We were so busy these last months, that I forgot to talk about it .
- I even had it's successor ; it is a Golden Retreever called Bill . They are already training it at the dog kennel .

"Calm down, sweetie. I think not telling you what happened to your dog while I was absent was the best thing to do. You had to deal with my absence. When I came back, he certainly forgot to speak about him. Try to be more understanding towards my brother because he's getting older.
From now on, let's think about Jim's wife and after you could say that isn't fair."

Jim asked her why she was giving a hard time to her father these last days ; but she elude the question by talking about something else . He didn't insist ; as he knew somehow that youngsters have this kind of moments where nothing can reach them . This is often part of some chapter about their teen life ; and a damned annoying period for the parents . Things will come back to normal just as sudden as it started , just like a sun ray breaking the cover of clouds which darken your sky for weeks .

2 - Are you sure that they live in France? According to their names,they have been living rather in the USA or in the United Kingdom.

First of all, Mr. William is Wendy's husband.
Moreover, I really thought that Wendy and Howard lived in France. I might be wrong. Now, it's more difficult to remember the whole story and it would be arduous to read back the beginning of it.
I'm sorry if I've made you feel mixed up, forget the first sentence in my last part and start anew.

Can you imagine ; we already wrote almost 25 pages A4

I did archive the story with all the personnages . I tried to read it again a little bit fast ; it seems that we never wrote in which country the story started . At the biginning maybe we didn't consider that it was important, but now the story starts to become larger,and we have to take a decision . We have a lot of possibilities ;" Countries , and towns "
Personally ; I would pitch on " United Kingdom and the town of London " ; now : everybody have the choice

It was early in the morning , When Howard came out of his bed ; as usual , and like thousand of people in the world , the first thing that
he did, was to walk toward the window, and open the curtains to see what was the weather like . He had a very good vista of the country nearby. The Autumn was there , with its wonderful colours . It was like a crazy artist had tried many colours to paint a landscape, without beeing able to decide which colour he was going to use ; but finaly under his paint brush , came out the most wonderful picture ever painted .
- We are going to have a nice week end , what a wonderful oportunity for a walk undergrowth , he thought .

-He was lost in his thoughts and suddenly he told himself; "I'll call Wendy at nine o'clock and ask her to come with me. She never works on Saturdays and I'm sure she'll enjoy it". After having made his decision, he had breakfast, he shaved and took a shower. At nine, he called and asked her:

Howard wanted so much to share this afternoon alone with Wendy , that he would have found any excuses about his daughter .
But at the same time , he was worrying about Lee Andrée 's behaviour ; at a time, she was looking like a punk , after she changed and was dressed like a boy to a point that he thought maybe she was homosexual ; and now he thinks that she dresses too sexy . Not a long time ago as he rushed into the bathroom , he found his daudhter under the shower , and shaving a particular part of her anatomy . for a few second the time had stopped like a freeze frame .. She grabbed a towel,and wrapped it around her body before she yellded
- Get out !... You could have knock at the door ...!
- Next time !... lock the door....!
He told it to Wendy the day after . She listened carefully the story ; looked at him with a big smile and said ; you had to be in such an embarrassing situation , to realise that your daughter had become a women ..? I think that because of your job , and the fact that you were often away from your home, you missed some episodes of her life .You will have to rebuilt your relationship with your daughter .
Beside that ...! she said with fizzy eyes ; I have no doubt that she will introduce you a boyfriend soon .
Wendy was already arrived at the gate waiting for him . He stopped his car , and took a few seconds too look at her .
- This is not fair to have a Lady abide for you ; She said laughing , as he was taking his time to walk toward her .

- Howard never had in mind that he could face such a situation one day ; he who had to deal with so many trying jobs where he was risking his life and always analysing the probabilities to solve a problem , was left speechless , and loosing his depht . In a second he saw all his dreams vanish . Finally the only thing he found was to escape that situation .
- Wendy ...; " he said with a hoarse voice" - I am sorry but I have to leave ; I tried to phone this morning , but there were no answer .
He was already a few steps farther going back to his car ; he swivelled leaving Wendy and her " Ex " standing on the sidewalk .
- A friend of yours ....? Asked Paul
- Yes ..; just a friend ... She answered , as she didn't want to waste time in long explainations .
Howard took his time to drive back home , and tried to calm himself by watching TV; but The only thing he could do was to walk back and forth in the house like a lion in a cage .

These days , nothing in his life was going the way he wanted . His daughter was giving him a hard time, and in his mind,Wendy for what he saw a few minutes ago , seemed to be in heaven with her ex husband . somewhere; he thought that in this case also , beeing in a particular surrounding conditions , so many years spend in the army , often away from his home ; he new many ways of living , but he , as Wendy told him about his daughter ; had missed or forgoten something about his own culture behaviour .
Finally he decided to go out and went for a lonely walk along the Thames , he went slowly down the stairs going to the warf where
Lee Andrée used to come . He was always wondering why she liked this place ; maybe that she had inherit from her mother who had grown on a boat ...? A barge was making in just in front of him , and an other surprise was waiting for him .
Lee Andrée wearing jeans and a Danish sweater her hand paded with working gloves , was on the deck , ready to jump on the warf to make fast . He just stayed there watching the scene . It was like if she had done that all her life ;she jumped from the boat the cable in her hand and ran to tie the barge . A young handsome curly black hair man was standing on the stern and did the same thing ....

- Not here ! Said Howard while he was taking his time took look at his daughter going back on the boat . She seemed so different suddenly ; not the little annoying teen giving him a hard time , and with who he had to deal with everyday for a while , but he was looking at a self confident woman , dressed like a sailor reaching a habour after a long journey . He stood there a long while , watching them going back and forth on the deck, his daughter listening carefully the young man showing her how to tie the boat the good way and let enough slack because of the low tide hapening a few hours later .
The two youngsters disapeared behind the wheelhouse, and for what he saw through one of the window on the other side, they were more than friends .... They showed up hand in hand a few minutes later.
From the wharf and because of the noise Howard yelded : - I am going back home ; see you later .
- No..! Wait for me ! she said . She left Peter , giving him a wonderful smile, jumped on the wharf running toward her father and put her right arm around his waist.
- Let's go ...! she said ; starring at him ....

- Dad don't drop to conclusion too fast ; I met Peter at the club last year when I was training Karate . He is very kind and intelligent .
He is living on the barge with his parent ; he was even almost born there . He finished school two years ago he learnt to be a captain and went at sea for one year . Since then he works with his parents and as he wants to do the same job , he takes this oportunity to learn all the tricks of the trade .
- Do you love him ...?
- Yes ..!
- But why did you behave this way for a while ; I was really worrying .
- It was just for fun Dad ; and sometimes with my freinds we made some bets , I know that some of them were stupid , but I didn't realise that it was going to bother you so much . I apologize for that .
