C'est reparti pour une nouvelle dépression nerveuse avec les anglophones !!

Comme prévu Travis, morenita, kameleon et tous ceux qui aimeraient participer à cet exercice de Listening Comprehension avec les mini-films.

Chris Gardner : One of the most, special moment I haven’t had with my son, as a young boy, is the day that we got our own apartment.

We have a key. You know, I mean he was so used to seeing me and trying to help me carry this stuff. That’s what I explained to him : no, no son. This is ours now. Your home. This is home.

C : Heu, I’m a stark worker. ( stark ??? )

PR : Are we talking big business here ?

C: You’re talking big business. We’re talking some of the largest financial institutions not just in the US but in the world.

C : ( softly ) This is big business.

( They laugh loudly. And I did too ! )

PR : And the most of my research is …... a lives of lucky and unlucky people.

C :Hum ( as an agreement )

PR : And so we’ve found to about 400 excepted lucky and unlucky people, and lots. People know we’re looking in your story, and say you know "here’s a kind of lucky, successful guy !" You know in a ….if they look in, now, your present situation you’re in.
Do you suffer to have shared a bad luck ?

C : Hummm ! I’m going to tell you that unemployment will never help our relationship. ( PR stared at him ).
Ok ! Unemployment is not going to help anybody’s relationship.
Maybe the long was assured. One day, I came home only to find down that she was gone. She was gone and taked everything but the dust ! Including my son ! Including myself.

Waw ! Not so easy ! But what I found strange is that I could understand better the American's speech. Better than the English one !
Travis, will you succeed in making me forget my ancestor's language ? Not sure ! I'm going to be very careful !

So even an adult uses "like" in the US ?
But I didn't hear this sentence in my film. I don't why but it starts with " one of the most special ......"
Maybe it's because I use the "bas débit" ? Cause I'm sure it's the case for morenita.

It doesn't matter, but I found this strange as I listened once more and didn't hear the first sentence. I like the "like"s so much !!

Hi Serena! I listened again.

"Break" is said very clearly. (Even if it is with a British accent!)

"Where's" could maybe be "When's" but I don't think so. I'm fairly certain he said "Where's" (and morenita agrees! )

"Over" is said very fast, so I can understand why you think it sounds like "on". But every time I listen to it, I always hear "over".

I wonder if you both read my post. You went a little bit further on the dialogue. A question about what Chris said here :

You really didn’t hear "fine" instead of "alright" ?
Also, isn’t there an "off" after casinos ?
Travis, I think he said "help me UP". Can you check once more, please ?

Morenita, by saying "we'll start it off", Chris simply means "we’ll start this game". To start sth off = commencer, se lancer sur qque chose.

"To be on a roll" means to be undergoing a period of winning/being right/etc.

C. had just correctly guessed the color of the previous three cards. So he was on (a bit of) a roll!

Copinours, I started this job with Travis by transcripting the film :"peur ou inconscience ?". You'll see it in the topic " compréhension à l'oral ". And then morenita joined us. It's really the best and most instructive thing I've done in the site. It's a pity it's not at the forum it deserves.
Anyway, I'm glad you liked it.

Morenita, I'm fine. But I'm not sure to be as regular as I used to be here. So, I can't decide for the transcription of the second part.
