Hello
Serena, si tu veux bien corriger mes erreurs... Merci
I'm fond of "Queen" and his lead singer Freddie Mercury.
Can you give me some answers to these questions :
1. When was Freddie born ?
2. What was his real name ?
3. When was the first album of Queen released ?
4. How much did Queen earn in July 1972 per week ?
5. What is the name of their album released in November 1974 ?
6. What is the name of their thirteenth album with the famous song "Radio Ga Ga" in ?
It's really easy to find these answers.

Now, let’s know a bit more about a writer I like very much for his books are all full with wisdom and thoughts for a "good" life: Paolo Coelho.
1) Where is he from?
2) When and where was he born?
3) What’s the title of the book that made him become well known?
4) He’d been committed in a lunatic asylum because his father thought he was mad. How old was he at the time?
5) To talk about the bad memories of those days in the asylum, he wrote a book. What’s its title?
6) Where does he live at this very moment?
See you later!

His father was a professor of art, a curator of a mudeaum and a painter too. He worked at the School of Fine Arts and Crafts.

He met Henri Matisse about 1905 for the 1st time.
When he married Olga in July 1918, his famous wedding's witnesses were Cocteau, Apollinaire, Max Jacob.

Hello everybody,
Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay (Devon, United-Kingdom), on September 15th, 1890. Her father was American, and her mother was English. At the age of 16, she came in Paris to learn singing but she abandoned her idea. She married Archibald Christie at 22 years old, Colonel in the Royal Flying Corps. During the First World War, she worked as a pharmacist in the hospital of Torquay. This job influenced her in the description of lots of murders in her books. She wrote her first book, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles", because she bet with her sister. In this book, she introduced "Hercule Poirot", the famous Belgian detective. This first book was only published in 1920. She divorced in 1928. In 1930, Agatha Christie married Sir Max Mallowan, a British Archaelogist. Later, she liked to say her second husband loved her because she was getting old. She travelled with her second husband, and her trips allowed her to describe lots of settings in her books. She also wrote romances under the pseudonyme Mary Westmacott. She was granted the title of "Dame Commander of the British Empire" in 1971. She made die Hercule Poirot in "Hercule Poirot's Last Case" published in 1975. She had published an announcement about Poirot's death in 1974. She had published more than eighty books! She often wrote two books a year. Most of her books have been filmed. Her last book was "Sleeping Murder", published in 1976.

Congratulation Grabuge & Joy.
I've read today that there is a crater in the moon called Avicenna.
Avicenna (Ibn Sina) was a physician, philosopher, and scientist. He is considered by many to be "the father of modern medicine" & whose work had a direct impact on the Renaissance.
1) What's his complete name? When and where was he born?
2) How old was he when he succeeded in curing the king of Bukhara (Nooh Ibn Mansour) of an illness in which all the well-Known physicians had given up hope?
3) What is his famous book in medical science?
4) Who translated this book into Latin in the twelfth century?

Bon, récapitulons vos trouvailles et les miennes
Ray Charles was born in Albany (Georgia, in the United States) on September 23th, 1930, and named Ray Charles Robinson.
During his childhood, he lost his little brother who got drowned in a bathtub just in front of him, and all his life he'll feel responsible for his brother's death.
When he was 7, he began losing his eyesight and was sent to a blind an deaf school. He studied compositions and learnt to read and write music in Braille.
Ray Charles Robinson changed his name in 1949 when he began working as a musician in the show business. He wanted to avoid confusion with Sugar Ray Robinson who was a boxer. Then, he shortened his name to Ray Charles.
The song "Georgia on my mind" was written in memory of the country he came from. At that time, black people weren't allowed to go to concerts, only whites, ans because of that, he refused to sing the first time he came back to Georgia for a concert. Thanks of him, things were changing ! This song was adopted as the official song of the State of Georgia on April 24, 1979.
On December 1981, he received a star on Holliwood Boulevard's .
Ray's Testimonials:
" He had an enormous effet on my career " (Elton John)
" I was so nervous to be in the same studio as Charles" (Johnny Mahtis)
"He's the only genius in our business" (Frank Sinatra)
" He could see a great lot better with his blind eyes than many others with their good eyes." (James Brown)

Bonjour Grabuge, Joy et Tubereuse!
Et voilà, je suis encore en retard.
Décidément,...
Grabuge, je suis d'accord avec Joy. J'allais justement répondre 84 ans.
J'ai calculé ainsi:
- En 1924, Raymond a épousé Cissy qui est plus âgée que lui de 18 ans donc elle avait 54 ans ( plus de détails : (1924-1888)+18 = 54)
- En 1954 , elle est morte donc elle avait 84 ans : ( 1954-1924) +54 =84
Voilà! Alors Grabuge...

Dommage.
Tu fais du beau boulot là, ma jolie.

Ok Serena, j'avais oublié.
Voilà le petit résumé:
Marc levy was born on October 16, 1961 in Boulogne ( France).
He was an architect and at 38 years old, he invented a story for his son, Louis, under pressure from his sister Lorraine (a scriptwriter), it was “Et si c’était vrai”. And that was how he became a writer. His first novel was a success. And for that, Marc Levy received the Price Yves Gibeau in 2004. Apart writing, he has a second passion which is the cinema. He would have plans in the cinema .
He was very famous thanks to his novels which are :
*Et si c'était vrai : 2000
*Où es-tu ? : 2001
*Sept jours pour une éternité : 2003
*La prochaine fois: 2004
*Vous revoir: 2005
And now, he lives in London with his son.
Je reviens Marie pour Marie Curie.
See you soon.

1) Marie Curie was born in November 7th, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland.
2) Her maiden name was Marie Sklodowska.
3) In 1891, Marie entered the Sorbonne in Paris.
To meet the expenses for fees, books and living she had to work caring for the laboratories.
4) She married Pierre Curie on July 25th, 1895.
5) She won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903.
6) Her husband, Pierre Curie, and Henri Becquerel shared the Prize with her.
7) They discovered natural radioactivity in radium and polonium.
8) She was the first woman:
- Scientist in history
- In Europe to receive a doctorate of science,
- To ever teach at the Sorbonne,
- To receive two Nobel Prizes (in Physics and Chemistry), as yet the only woman to be so honoured.
- Who has been laid to rest under the famous dome of the Pantheon in Paris for her own merits.
9) She was honoured with a Nobel Prize for Chemistry for determining the atomic weight of radium. By doing this, she discovered a cancer therapy.
10) On July 6, 1934, she died in Sallanches (France) on July 4, 1934.
(Some documents say in Paris, others in Savoy....)
11) She was coined as : "This tiny woman with her decigram of radium turned the world upside down, forever changing the way we look at, understand, and use our environment."
When she received the nobel prize in physics, she’s been told: "Yes She Can". (Maybe on the name of all the women of the world?)

1) When and where was Walt Disney born?
2) Where did he spend his childhood?
3) Who did he get married to?
4) What was the very first cartoon character he created? What year did it appear for the first time?
5) By releasing his short film "Steamboat Willie", Walt and his assistants innovated something great in the world of cinema. What is it and when did this happen?
6) When did the first comic strip of Mickey Mouse was brought out?
7) What achievement made Walt win the Academy Awards? And when?
8) What’s his very first full-length animated musical feature? When and where was it first released?
9) What did Walt Disney use to do to earn extra money as a young boy?
10) When did he die?
10 questions. Courage, il faut bien penser à autre chose.
See you later!
PS: A quote of Walt Disney I like very much: "When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage."
So true, isn’t it?

Great Grabuge !!
I know it's very hard, though I didn't mean to make you suffer so much, but only a little.
Let's sum up all this now.
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, in the Unites States. His surname "Disney" is an English form of "D'Isigny".
He spent his early childhood in Chicago but he moved at 5 years old to a farm in Marceline Missouri. He got married to one of the studio’s employees, Lillian Bounds, who coloured "Mickey mouse".
In 1926, he created his very first cartoon character: Oswald, the lucky rabbit.
Thus, Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in Steamboat Willie, the world's first synchronized sound cartoon, which premiered at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928. Its first comic strip was brought out in magazines on January 13, 1930. It was created by UB Iwerks.
In 1932, the production entitled Flowers and Trees won Walt the first of his studio's Academy Awards for it was the first color cartoon realeased at the time.
On December 21, 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated musical feature, premiered at the Carthay Theater in Los Angeles.
Walt Disney used to sell drawings to neighbours to make extra money. He died on December 15, 1966.
Merci de votre participation.
J'attends de découvrir une nouvelle personnalité. Impatiemment.
Au plaisir merveilleux consoeurs et confrère !

Hello Joy!
Ben...
See you soon!

Hello everybody!
Steven Spielberg . J'aime beaucoup ses films.
1) When and where was he born ?
2) Where and how did he spend his childhood?
3) How old was he when he realised his first movie ?
4) What was his first movie ? And how much did he earn for the first diffusion of this movie ?
5) He realised many other movies. But which movie has been the n°1 for 11 years in USA? And which movie has received 11 Oscar nominations ?
6) For which movie, Steven received: :
a- the Oscar of the best director in 1977
b- the Oscar of the best director in 1981
c- the Oscar of the best director in 1982
d- the Oscar of the best director in 1993
e- the Oscar of the best director in 1998
7) What is his last movie ?
C'est facile.
See you soon.

infiniment Joy .

Réponse: New game. What about ? de serena, postée le 09-08-2005 à 05:55:17 (S | E)
1) Steven Allan Spielberg (no confusion now ) was born in Cincinnati, (Ohio, USA) on December 18th, 1946.
3) At 14, he realised his first short film called "Escape to nowhere".
(Same answer as Joy’s. Is there anything else?)
Maybe it's: "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" (1978). He was then 32
4) His first movie was "Fire Light" diffused in 1964, and he earnt 600$ for the very first time it was released on the screen
6) b- in 1981 for "Les Aventuriers de l'Arche Perdue". (Hey, little Miss Pernickety ! )
He’s Sagittarius, his height: 5' 7½" (1.71 m) ……
Allez, on verra bien !

A bientôt.

Kathy! Retiens ton souffle !
3) Spielberg's first movie is "Fire Light". Realised in 1964. So he was 18 years old.
Voilà.
Et si tu me dis que c'est pas juste, je pleure. Parce que ça me paraît si évident maintenant !

........18 years old!!
