In a magazine article about dogs, I found the word Lurcher. But I don't find its translation in any dictionary. According to the context, it could be a mongrel but I am not sure. Has somebody an idea ?

;) No, it's not that. Eventually, I found it when browsing in a bookshop where I came across the new Harrap's. And it is said : lévrier bâtard

Annie, I found in my dictionnary like you. In French, it's un lévrier or un bâtard. I think it's a race of dogs.

The lurcher is a silent hunting dog used for hunting and running down game. Usually a cross between a greyhound (sometimes a whippet or saluki) and other breeds. The lurcher is not a breed of dog but a type, produced by customising the greyhound to the specific needs of the lurcher owner.
