Every country has their way to call their neighbor or another country.
Many nicknames seem to be related to food popular in those counties,
yanks or yankees means Americans
frogs or froggies means Frenchs
beefs or roastbeef means English
Germans used to refer to Italians during the war as 'Macaronis'.
'Pommies', as Australians call Englishmen
Folks from the Oriental countires are all Gooks
Australians are called skippies or kangaroos (skippy the kangaroo)
no other come to mind at the moment...

Hello all!
Sorry, I just have to add some commentary! Using a list like this requires a lot of discretion, because you could insult someone when you think you're only calling them by a nickname. For example, I don't mind being called a yankee, but Americans from the South don't like it. To them it means an American from the North (there's still a certain amount of antagonism between North and South, you see ). Most of the nicknames you've listed are pretty mild, but to call Orientals gooks is never teasing, but always insulting. So be careful!

May I remind you the comments made in the subject (babyscot59):

It's just for information... I would (and any sensible person would think the same) never even think about going around calling someone a yankie or whatever...

I agree with elbisee. Be careful, because some nicknames can be pejorative, and even offensive!

je rassure Elbisee, j"'ai proposé ce forum par pur-intérêt de la langue et pas pour "insulter" quelqu'un ici. Des telles pratiques sont indignes de membres sérieux!
