Don't get me wrong ?

Hi there !
I've got a quick question, I was wondering in what context you could use this expression : "Don't get me wrong".
If I say for example "I see what you mean but don't get me wrong, what I meant was ....... and not ......". Am I right here ?
Is it rude to use this expression or quite casual ?
Thanks in advance to everybody.
Joss.

"Don't get me wrong" means "Don't misunderstand me." You can well use it in any situation.
