Hello, dear Friends, Regulars and shy ones still hesitating to enter this fast-moving group...

Voici l'exercice de traductions suivant ... Attention … En thème, peu de phrases, mais un extrait très long et assez difficile … En version, un texte assez court, mais une toute nouvelle atmosphère … Changement de genre, …. Changement de « méthode » … Adaptez-vous ! Vous savez très bien faire !
C’est un La correction sera en ligne le jeudi 30 novembre très tard …
Pour réussite et persévérance, je vous donne THE FORCE.

I) Translate into English:

III) PLAYING and WORKING WITH WORDS: Using THE 8 WORDS given below (the 2 verbs can be put in whatever tenses or forms you fancy), 2 adjectives, 2 nouns and 2 link words, (you CANNOT change the nature of the words!) and the suitable punctuation, scratch your minds and create AN ONLY meaningful SENTENCE.
Je vous rappelle qu'« une phrase », une seule, se termine par un point [final, d'exclamation ou d'interrogation], peut avoir de la ponctuation interne ",/; /:/[...], et qu'elle doit avant tout avoir un sens.
Le but ultime est de faire une seule phrase complexe, courte ( moins de 50 mots, si possible ...), mais je le répète, qui ait un sens et sa logique interne !) (You CANNOT use two or more compulsory words consecutively!)
Cet exercice est TRES difficile, c'est pourquoi il demande beaucoup de réflexion et d'attention, de rigueur aussi dans l'application des règles. Vous ne pouvez le poster QU'UNE FOIS (ne faire qu'un seul exemplaire)
La date limite pour cet exercice est le mercredi 29 novembre, tard.
( Beaucoup de règles, j'en suis désolée ... mais déjà comme ça, c'est énormément de travail, et sans un effort de chacun, c'est ingérable. Je sais que plusieurs d'entre vous sont très attachés à cet exercice-jeu, qu'ils trouvent formateur and "mind-puzzling". Je vous rappelle cependant que vous n'êtes pas obligés de le faire ! FREEDOM! My dog IS ABLE TO keep STILL but yesterday he saw a fly that was STUCK in the MIDDLE of the CURTAIN, trying not to DIE, and INSTEAD of avoiding SEVERAL knickknacks next to my WIRELESS laptop , he jumped everywhere but the fly escaped. (44 words)

Mon frère a 11 ans de moins que moi, c'est-à-dire qu'il en a 54 aujourd'hui. Nous sommes les deux seuls encore en vie. Je le connais à peine, Il était un petit garçon quand j'ai quitté l'Irlande. Aujourd'hui, il vit en Nouvelle Zélande, et bien qu'il ait émigré pour faire fortune, il n'a pas réussi.
Mais, la nuit dernière quand on m'a appris la nouvelle qu'Arthur avait plié bagages et était parti, j'ai tout de suite pensé à Paddy.
Me voici, n'étant plus vraiment jeune, sans famille autour de moi.
Et il m'est venu à l'esprit qu'il est un homme qui a l'expérience de la terre, mais pas les moyens de posséder la sienne propre.
Je me suis dite, pourquoi ne pas lui écrire et lui demander de revenir avec ses fils, ici .

I did my very best, but I may have wrong, or right of course..., so I tried to answer to your own rules...)
My WIRELESS computer DIED in the MIDDLE of June : SEVERAL times, I couldn't use it, but was STILL and all working ; while I ended saving all my files on keys INSTEAD I HAD TO lose everything, suddenly it STUCK a black CURTAIN on its screen : I almost DIED laughing... ! 50 words.

I) Translate into English:
1.Son besoin infini de prendre des risques va causer sa perte. Comme il a dépassé les bornes, je ne te dirai pas que tu as tort de lui avoir laissé trouver des dossiers erronés. Après tout, c’est l’arroseur arrosé !

- je regrette qu’elle ne se soit pas confiée à moi avant = Je souhaite qu’elle se soit confiée = I wish she had confided in me= if only she had confided in me.

3) Chacun y est allé de ses propositions pour se faire mousser auprès du directeur, surtout « Monsieur Je sais tout » qui met toujours son grain de sel avec ses « y'a qu'à, faut qu'on » ...

Maintenant, il vit en Nouvelle-Zélande, et bien qu’il ait émigré pour faire fortune, il n’a pas réussi.
Mais hier soir (2), lorsque j’ai appris qu’Arthur avait plié bagages(3), j’ai soudain pensé à Paddy. Je suis là, plus toute jeune (4), sans famille/ à mes côtés./ pour m’entourer. Il m’est venu à l’esprit que (1) c’est un homme qui a une grande expérience de la terre, mais n’a pas les moyens de posséder sa propre terre. (1) Attention : He was a small child = « C’ était un petit garçon= gallicisme/ Il était petit » et NON « il était un petit garçon » qui est un anglicisme ;
(2) « last night » = hier soir
(3) « had packed his traps and gone »= littéralement = avait « rangé » (empaqueté) ses pièges et était parti. MAIS EN FAIT = « était parti » = « gone » au sens de « décédé » de façon soudaine, sans doute. L’héroïne le dit clairement plus loin, en envisageant son « départ » = son décès inopiné
(4) « not getting any younger »= plus toute jeune = litote= « assez vieille ».
(5) « write to him and ask him »= non pas lui écrire et demander, mais lui écrire pour demander Lien internet

Après avoir lu tous les articles et Forums concernant le sujet, retenons que : « write to him and ask him »= est la forme plus fréquente de « write to him to ask him » ; - en anglais Britannique, verbe + to + verbe est un peu formel, mais est cependant fréquent surtout pour insister sur le « but ».
-l’anglais américain, n’utiliserait pas « go to ask », utilise plutôt « go and ask » et encore plus souvent « go ask », ce qui ne s’entend pratiquement pas en GB et est considéré comme incorrect.

III) PLAYING AND WORKING WITH WORDS:
(to) DIE – (to) STICK – MIDDLE – CURTAIN – WIRELESS - SEVERAL – STILL - INSTEAD + un équivalent de modal.

- I heard my WIRELESS radio-set broadcasting that there had been a coach accident which was still slowing down the traffic on the motorway; the driver was explaining he had been disturbed by a sun protective CURTAIN which UNSTUCK from the windscreen and, INSTEAD OF driving normally, he WAS NOT ABLE TO maintain the vehicle on the right lane; the coach was transporting many MIDDLE- aged people, unfortunately SEVERAL of them died .
