Elle comprit que travailler avec application était gratifiant et pouvait rapporter de l'argent.
À partir de ce jour, Jenny changea d'attitude : cet acquis l'avait fait mûrir et elle en était consciente. Elle commençait à prendre plus souvent des initiatives, et aidait sa mère à organiser les vacances d'été. Jenny était si dégourdie ! Elle déposa ses sous sur un compte bancaire. Elle demanda à sa maman de lui apprendre la cuisine et notamment son dessert favori : la mousse au chocolat. A part ça, ses autres passe-temps étaient assez variés: elle aimait écouter les chansons du Top 50 et danser dessus; Jenny adorait danser, son rêve était d’aller dans une école pour apprendre à danser. Jenny adorait le mur d'escalade de l'école, comme elle aimait jouer au tennis, au ping-pong, au basket-ball ; en fait, elle était plus sportive que les autres filles de son âge.
Elle aimait la musique classique, et contre toute attente, était une excellente danseuse de "country"... la musique country qu'elle a eu la chance de découvrir lors de leurs vacances aux États-Unis l’année dernière avec ses cousins qu'elle ne connaissait que par leurs photographies. ils lui apprirent comment danser, et invitèrent sa famille à un spectacle. Quelles vacances! Elle ne les oublierait jamais. Elle se fit même des amis qu'elle invita à son anniversaire ... Pour l'heure, la destination des prochaines vacances obligea toute la famille à faire des concessions afin de trouver un terrain d'entente parce que Jenny voulait retourner aux Etats-Unis, sa mère voulait découvrir le Canada, et son père avait hâte de visiter Vienne la capitale de l’Autriche où la ville des rêves, comme on l’appelait, car Freud y avait vécu et pour ses concerts. Soirées mouvementées où chacun mit un point d'honneur à camper sur ses positions. Afin de mettre tout le monde d'accord, Jenny mit les trois propositions dans un chapeau, le tendit à sa mère qui tira le papier au sort : "Etats-Unis". Coup de pot ? Eh bien, pas vraiment : dans le chapeau, il restait cinq papiers, pas seulement deux ! Jenny avait triché, sa maman s'en aperçut en remettant le chapeau à sa place... Elle disqualifia les États-Unis, vérifia les papiers restants et en mit un dans chaque main : "Alors ! Il nous reste deux destinations. Jenny à toi l'honneur !" Quelle ironie ! Mauvaise perdante, Jenny cria : "Je veux retourner aux Etats-Unis et j'irai !" "Un ton plus bas, tu as neuf ans, tu ne nous donneras pas d'ordres ... Tant pis pour toi, que ça te serve de leçon !"
Elle partit dans sa chambre en pleurant. Plus tard, elle bouda. Et elle mangea à peine son dîner. Jenny n'était pas si déprimée qu'elle aurait aimé le faire croire, mais elle essayait toujours; ça ... pourrait marcher ... mais contre toute attente, la réponse ferme et définitive de ses parents fut : Vienne : tout ça n'enchantait pas Jenny, qui campait sur ses positions; mais ses parents savaient qu’elle en serait enchantée, car Jenny était amoureuse des choses belles. Nul doute qu'elle apprécierait découvrir une si belle ville. Tout le monde n'avait pas la chance de visiter ces monuments splendides : le Palais Impérial d'Hofburg, le château baroque de Schönbrunn, ou la maison moderne d'Hundertwasser, la Cathédrale Stephansdom de style gothique, sans oublier, le musée d'histoire de l'art de Vienne ... des vacances de rêves ... Et pour plus de surprise sa meilleur amie Justine serait invitée pour ce voyage pour récompenser le bon comportement de Jenny à la maison et à l'école : Vienne, une ville décalée et ultramoderne qui réussit finalement à conquérir le coeur de Jenny qui se dit à elle-même : "Ce n'est que partie remise pour les States ..."
