Revoilà votre nouveau défi, et je sais qu'il est d'autant plus difficile à tenir que vous avez, et c'est bien normal, beaucoup de sollicitations.
Les vacances de Printemps se terminent mais la série des "ponts" commence, et si le beau temps veut bien se mettre de la partie, ce sera encore plus difficile de rester au travail.
Ce devoir ... est un et sa correction sera en ligne le mardi 15 mai, tard. Une petite nouveauté, cette fois : la possibilité de vous exprimer librement ...

I)Translate into English:

Je vous rappelle qu'« une phrase », une seule, se termine par un point [final, d'exclamation ou d'interrogation], peut avoir de la ponctuation interne ",/; /:/[...], et qu'elle doit avant tout avoir un sens.
Le but ultime est de faire une seule phrase complexe, courte (moins de 50 mots, si possible ...), mais je le répète, qui ait un sens et sa logique interne !) Cet exercice est TRES difficile, c'est pourquoi il demande beaucoup de réflexion et d'attention, de rigueur aussi dans l'application des règles. Vous ne pouvez le poster QU'UNE FOIS (ne faire qu'un seul exemplaire).
La date limite pour cet exercice est le lundi 14 mai 2018 tard.
( Beaucoup de règles, j'en suis désolée ... mais déjà comme ça, c'est énormément de travail, et sans un effort de chacun, c'est ingérable.) Je sais que plusieurs d'entre vous sont très attachés à cet exercice-jeu, qu'ils trouvent formateur and "mind-puzzling". Je vous rappelle cependant que vous n'êtes pas obligés de le faire ! FREEDOM! Voici les éléments imposés cette fois :

I) Translate into English:

1) Plus le temps passe et moins il y a de chance que Jenny ne fasse cette démarche.
The more time goes by, the less chance there is that Jenny is actually going to take the step.

- Il s’agissait ici d’une « progression parallèle ». « the more/ the more … ; the more/ the less ». (forme comparative de l’adjectif précédée de « the ». ) Attention, ici, les deux mots étaient indénombrables ("time" et "chance"). => (précédés de less…). S’ils sont dénombrables pluriels, ne pas oublier d’employer « the fewer … ; »
- faire une démarche = to take a step ; (to follow a process/ a procedure est beaucoup plus formel)

2) Parleraient-ils seulement de mariage si Paula n’avait pas fait pression pour l’épouser très vite ?
Would marriage even be on the table if Paula hadn’t pushed for a quick wedding?

a deux significations : « posé », « digne » et « en attente » … Ces deux adjectifs s’appliquaient parfaitement à la comparaison du père de Mario : c’était un montagnard, comparé ici à un bouc (la chèvre me gênait) avec ses cornes « evil », malfaisantes, maléfiques, signe de son obstination, mais aussi de la dignité dans laquelle il se drapait.
(2) He wouldn’t relent = Lien internet

Attention, bien sûr, à la valeur de « would » … qui indiquait ici de toute évidence la volonté. (Il fallait utiliser le verbe « vouloir ».)
(3) Ici, le would était un conditionnel de prédiction = passé du futur : => « Mario le remercierait » = discours rapporté des paroles du père : « il me remerciera »

Vous avez été nombreux à faire cet exercice et j’ai bien compris qu’il vous avait donné du fil à retordre …
Beaucoup de travail aussi pour « corriger » cet exercice … Vous savez que, par respect pour votre pensée, j’essaie toujours de corriger ces phrases « a minima ». J’ai été, cette fois, bien ennuyée … Il devait être particulièrement difficile, car vous avez été tentés « d’adapter »
la signification des mots anglais à des traductions françaises un peu approximatives. ( = ce qu'il ne faut jamais faire ... - cf notre exercice "Another torture ...")

Plusieurs mots vous ont gênés :
- SLIGHT pouvait être nom, ou adjectif qualificatif, épithète surtout.

Beaucoup d’entre vous ont éprouvé de la difficulté à trouver une phrase où le sens des mots et la structure étaient en harmonie … Certaines phrases n’étaient pas très « naturelles », cette fois … mais j'ai bien conscience de la difficulté de cet exercice ...

Un mot mal employé :

- APART FROM this damned SCARF, she YELLED, and (~~WHATEVER~~ = no matter how) much MORE intelligent than her he might feel, there was not a SLIGHT thing in this PACKAGE which could have REMINDED her OF the PASSIONATE moments they had spent together the year before.

- ~~WHATEVER~~ (= Though) this PACKAGE was MORE cumbersome, I opened it, and at the sight of my old SCARFS, I started YELLING with joy ; APART FROM the one with a SLIGHT scent of wool, they REMINDED me of my mother and of our PASSIONATE conversations.
