Hello!
1. Dust coated the furniture.
The furniture is coated with dust.
C'est la construction du verbe qui impose "with" : to coat smth with smth (= recouvrir de) : Lien internet
A l'instar de to cover (with), to fill (with), with indique le moyen, l'"outil" utilisé, comme dans la phrase française suivante : "Elle a été tuée avec un couteau". Il faut donc savoir que l'on peut trouver "with" après to cover, to fill...
2. Trees surround the field.
The field is surrounded with trees.
"By" s'impose, les arbres ne se sont pas déplacés d'eux-mêmes pour se positionner autour du champ.
Par contre, on dit : He was surrounded with love. Il était entouré d'amour.
Ça rejoint ma remarque précédente.
3. The police do not know him (utiliser “unknown”).
He is unknown for the police.
To, car c'est quelque chose qui fait appel à la perception (ou sinon, apprenez la construction "to be unknown to sb").
To me, it sounds silly. Pour moi, ça paraît idiot.
That'll be an ice-cream for me. Je prendrai une glace.
That's a shop for men. C'est une boutique pour hommes (= à destination des hommes).
4. He went to the USA last year.
The USA were visited by them last year.
Pas sûr qu'il faille changer le verbe, donc je dirais que c'est impossible pour cette phrase.
5. They fear that the passengers have drowned.
The passengers might have been drowned.
Vous avez changé le verbe, mais on peut mettre la phrase au passif en gardant "fear".
6. Most industrialists are protesting against red tape.
Red tape is being protested X by most industrialists.
Rappelez-vous, on peut mettre les verbes avec prépositions au passif, car on considère que le groupe "verbe + préposition" est le véritable verbe, et donc que le complément après la préposition est un COD. Il ne faut donc pas oublier la préposition.
7. The farmhands goaded the cattle into the cowshed.
The cattle was goaded into the cowshed.
Je n'ai pas trouvé "cattle" au singulier, comme en témoignent ces liens :
Lien internet
(These cattle are being fattened up for slaughter)
Lien internet
(plural noun...)
Attention aux particules adverbiales prépositions (particules adverbiales = phrasal verbs)... I thought we should had to (should = devrions) put "by" every time
Bonne journée !

2. Trees surround the field.
The field is surrounded by trees.
Okay!
3. The police do not know him (utiliser “unknown”).
He is unknown to the police.
J'ai un peu de mal à comprendre ce point, donc je pense que je vais apprendre la structure par coeur.
4. He went to the USA last year.
Okay - Impossible
5. They fear that the passengers have drowned.
The passengers might have been drowned.
The passengers are feared to be drown.
6. Most industrialists are protesting against red tape.
Red tape is being protested against by most industrialists.
Yes, I'm sorry. Fixed!
7. The farmhands goaded the cattle into the cowshed.
The cattle were goaded into the cowshed.
On WordReference, it was written that it was singular.
Thanks!

5. The passengers are feared to be drownX.
Si vous mettez "be", vous changez la construction :
The passengers are feared to be drowned. On craint que les passagers ne soient noyés (= état d'être mort par noyade ; noyé est un adjectif ici).
The passengers are feared to have drowned. On craint que les passagers ne se soient noyés (= action de se noyer ; noyé est un participe passé ici).
En outre, la phrase est "They fear that the passengers have drowned".
Le reste, OK.
En cherchant "cattle" sur Wordreference, j'ai bien "npl" (= nom pluriel).

Hello,
The passengers are feared to be drowned. Thank you!
Donc, si j'ai bien compris, on dit :
She crept up on his little sister covered with a white blanket to scare her.
MAIS
The ground is covered by grass.
