comprendre ceci ? Caroline, la mère de Frédéric, refusait d'admettre que le jeune couple avait besoin de se retrouver seuls...
- They WOULD inevitably HAVE QUARRELLED *, if she hadn't finally agreed to stay separately in a nearby flat.
Ils se seraient inévitablement fâchés, si finalement elle n'avait pas accepté de vivre séparément dans un appartement proche de chez eux.
- It reminded Frederic of the time when he WOULD go to his grandparents'house, when his parents were busy.
Cela rappelait à Frédéric le temps où il allait chez ses grands-parents quand ses parents étaient occupés.

* ici, "forced" ne convenait pas. Il ne s'agissait pas d'exprimer une obligation, mais le côté inéluctable, inévitable de la mésentente entre des générations différentes obligées à co-habiter.
