Voici votre exercice de traduction suivant. Souvenez-vous, le narrateur se souvenait de ses descentes à l'abri pendant la guerre et les bombardements sur Londres.

Translate into English:

They didn’t have their own shelter. He and his mother went up the road, to Jill’s house, number 64, which had a shelter in the back garden. Jill’s Dad had made it himself. His own Dad was usually on duty during an air raid, he was a Warden, making sure everybody was in a shelter, and not letting any lights show through their curtains. If the German planes saw a light shining through your curtains they would know where you were and they would drop a bomb on you. Sometimes in the middle of a raid his father would call in at number 64 and come down to the shelter to see that they were all right. Or he would come and fetch them after the All Clear had sounded. Sometimes he would carry Timothy home asleep, and he would wake up in the morning in his own bed without having heard the All Clear. The All-Clear siren was all the same noise, but the Air-Raid siren was up and down, uhhhERRR…uhhhERRR…uhhhERRR… It was clever to have two different sirens that sounded like what they meant. The All Clear was a tired, safe sound, like you felt going home, yawning, after a raid, but the Air-Raid siren sounded frightening.

His own Dad was usually on duty during an air raid, he was a Warden, making sure everybody was in a shelter, and not letting any lights show through their curtains. Si les avions allemands apercevaient une lumière à travers les rideaux, il sauraient où vous étiez et ils laisseraient tomber une bombe sur vous. Quelquefois au milieu d’un raid, son père venait au numéro 64 et descendait dans l’abri pour voir si tout le monde allait bien. Ou bien il venait les chercher quand la fin d’alerte avait retenti. Quelquefois, il portait Timothy endormi jusqu’à la maison et il se réveillait le matin dans son propre lit sans avoir entendu la fin d’alerte. La sirène de fin d’alerte faisait toujours le même bruit, mais le son de la sirène d’alerte aérienne montait et descendait, uhhhERRR…uhhhERRR.. C’était malin d’avoir deux sirènes différentes qui disaient bien ce qu’elles voulaient dire. La sirène de fin d’alerte avait un son fatigué, rassurant comme ce que vous ressentiez en rentrant à la maison et en baillant après un raid, mais la sirène d’alerte,elle, était toujours terrifiante

Ils n'avaient pas leur propre abri. Lui et sa mère montèrent la route jusqu'à la maison de Jill au numéro 64, qui elle avait un abri au fond du jardin. Le père de Jill l'avait fabriqué lui-même. Habituellement son père était de service quand il y avait un raid aérien, c'était un intendant s'assurant que chacun était bien dans un abri et ne laissait filtrer aucune lumière à travers leurs rideaux. Si les avions allemands apercevaient un filet de lumière, ils sauraient qu'on était là et pourraient nous bombarder. Parfois son père appelait au numéro 64 et descendait à l'abri voir s'ils allaient tous bien. Ou plutot il venait les chercher après que le signal de fin d'alerte ait retenti. Parfois, il transportait Timothy (dans ses bras) chez lui endormi et Timothy se réveillait le matin dans son lit sans avoir entendu le signal de fin d'alerte. Tout signal de fin d'alerte avait le même son mais la tonalité du signal d'alerte annonçant un raid aérien montait puis baissait OUUUouuu... C'était judicieux d'avoir d'avoir deux tonalités différentes, chacune avait sa propre signification. La fin d'alerte avait un son sourd, sain et rassurant donnant le sentiment de rentrer à la maison, baillant après un raid, mais la sirène d'alerte était effrayante.

(2) Phrase qui est au discours indirect libre qui rapporte soit ce que les parents disaient aux enfants pour les encourager à respecter les consignes de sécurité, soit ce que les enfants se disaient les uns aux autres.
(3) Quel merveilleuse surprise que de se retrouver dans son lit douillet alors que l’on ne s’y est pas couché et que l’on a eu peur le soir !
