Hello,
It is possible because 'fishing' here is a noun, not a verb in the continuous form (v-ing)
My hobby is fishing.
Fishing boat.
Fishing net.

Hello Lucile, thanks a lot
But I thought rather than it was a verb (to fish)
If I write : The boys are going to fish this afternoon FUTUR
Is it wrong???
Ou alors on utilise les expressions : to go fishing , to go running, to go cycling ... PRESENT
Perhaps "to go fishing" au present continu devient "I am going fishing"... you are going fishing ???
C'est pas clair dans ma tête Désolée
Merci de m'éclairer

Hello,
Profile photo for Mary...
12 years experience as an English L.Teacher in own home.
We usually say, 'We go fishing, we go camping, we like hiking at the weekend.’
Fishing, camping and hiking are used as NOUNS here. It can be confusing because they ' look like verbs’ but are HOBBIES or JOBS.
Another answer:
“We go fishing” might be the answer to the question “What do you do on holiday?” I can’t think of another appropriate time that you’d say that.
“We go to fish” might be the answer to the question “Why are you going to the river?”
In fact, if I were asked any question like that I’d just say “We’re going fishing.”

Je vais aller pêcher = I am going to fish...non

sorry Lucile but I wonder how translate the action in the futur :be going to
in this sentence with the verb to fish, like that :
I am going to visit my mother
I am going to take a shower
I am going to fish
Is it possible ?

Bonjour
go et come ont tendance à se construire comme ceci :
1) Viens m'aider : Come and help me,
Va jouer : go and play.
Va aider ta mère : go and help your mother.
Avec des activités à caractère sportif, on dit :
Go running, go fishing, go surfing, go hiking etc.
Je vais aller pêcher = I am going to go fishing pourrait donc se concevoir.
I usually go fishing on weekends est correct, courant.

thank you very much Lucile and Gerondif
in conclusion they are expressions concerning sporting activities : go fishing
But the verb fish is also used alone ??? : he likes to fish or he likes fishing
and with other tenses ?

Bonjour
Par rapport à cette réponse :
“We go to fish” might be the answer to the question “Why are you going to the river?”
Je fais la différence entre why, pourquoi, qui demande une cause, et what...for, dans quel but, qui réclame un but.
I come to help you because you asked for help.
Why do you come ?
Because you asked for help.
What do you come for ?
To help you.
Je disais à mes élèves : la cause précède l'action, le but la suit.
I probably watch too many crime-series but :
Ding dong.
(I open the door)
a) Yes ?
b) I come to kill you because I was paid.
La cause précède sa venue, le but va suivre.
Mais en français comme en anglais, on entend souvent des réponses en "pour" à des questions "pourquoi".
