"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"
would you say that Martin Luther King's dream has come true?
The reverend Martin Luther King is an afro-American minister, he militates for the civil rights of the Blacks in the United States, for the peace and against the poverty. He pronounces a famous speech on August 28th, 1963 for the employment and the freedom: " I have has dream" it is from this speech that is extracted the quotation.
The minister denounces the segregation which separates the blacks and the whites. So, the Supreme Court is going to declare forbidden the segregation as a legal practice. And the American members of parliament will raise any condition in the exercise of the right to vote, the blacks become American citizens.
Certainly, the Blacks had of the right to vote in the same way as the Whites but, by a whole series of conditions (tests, payment of a tax) but also of intimidations. Often, the blacks underwent the pressures of the big landowners and voted under their influence.
Thus there is for the blacks of the progress.
But Martin Luther King’s children will not be only judged by character because there are disparities. Afro-Américans are victims of discrimination as soon as they wish to rentor to buy a house, to postulate for a job offer or for a wage promotion, to ask for a credit to the bank or for an insurance contract.
Thus in spite of the efforts of Martin Luther King and the progress, the blacks are judged yet, in America, by their color.
