Comment traduire « à »/ Thème grammatical

Bonjour.
La préposition à (au = à le, aux = à les) se traduit en anglais par at, to ,in , on , with , from, of , about, by , per, for et même 's. Parfois il n'y a pas de préposition.
L'emploi de ces prépositions anglaises est donc une source d'erreurs fréquentes.
Je vous propose de traduire les phrases suivantes.
J'ai sciemment choisi des phrases courtes, simples, d'usage courant, au vocabulaire presque élémentaire, afin que l'accent porte essentiellement sur la difficulté grammaticale.
Niveau :
Correction : Mercredi 20 Janvier 2009.
1- Nous écoutons les nouvelles à la radio.
2- Cette guitare est à mon beau-frère.
3- L'appartement de Pierre est au quatrième étage.
4- Il a une petite maison à Lyon, mais il vit principalement à Paris.
5- Elle parlait à voix basse de peur qu'on ne l'entende.
6- Il n'habite pas très loin, c'est à dix minutes d'ici, à pied.
7- Mes parents ont toujours attaché beaucoup d'importance à l'éducation de leurs enfants.
8- Il était déjà ivre et pourtant il continuait à boire du vin à la bouteille.
9- L'homme à la jambe de bois ressemble à un pirate.
10- Voyez-vous la dame au chapeau blanc ? C'est Marie. Je l'ai reconnue à sa démarche.

4) He's got a little house in Lyons, but most of the time, he lives in Paris.
5) She spoke in a low/hushed voice for fear of being heard/she might be heard.
6) He lives not very far ; it's ten minutes walk from here/ it's ten minutes from here, on foot.
7) My parents have always granted much importance to educating their children (school)/to well bringing up their children ( family).
8) He was already drunk and yet, he kept on drinking wine from the bottle.
9) The man with the wooden leg looks like a pirate.
10)Can you see the lady wearing a white hat ? It is Marie. I knew her by/from her gait.

3 ) Peter's flat is on the fourth floor.
4 ) He owns a small house in Lyons, yet mainly lives in Paris .
5 ) She spoke with (in) a low voice so that she would not be heard (but was she by her partners ?)
6 ) He doesn't live very far,ten minutes' walk in fact.
7 ) My parents have always felt concerned with the good manners( bringing up their children properly) of their children.
8 ) He was already quite drunk..keeping stuck onto the bottle of wine,though.
9 ) The one-wooden legged man (the man with a wooden leg)looks like a pirat.
10 ) Can you see the lady in a wide -brimmed white hat ? She is Marie (again!!). The way she walks is so special..(I recognized her thanks to her way of walking))

Remarques préliminaires.
Phrase 1:
À + appareil = on
Attention !
Des verbes transitifs en français ne le sont pas en anglais et inversement.
Lorsque le verbe « to listen » est accompagné d’un complément , il est suivi de la préposition to.
À la radio ──► on the radio; mais on dira on television ( sans article).
« The prime ministre is speaking on television. »
Dans cette phrase il s’agit d’un présent d’habitude ──► We listen to…..
Phrase 2 :
À + appartenance = ‘s
Il s’agit du cas possessif. Bien entendu on pourrait traduire cette phrase en employant le verbe « to belong »
Voici un autre exemple de phrases équivalentes :
This book is my brother’s.
This book is the one of my brother.
This book belongs to my brother.
Phrase 3 :
À + endroit = on
Cette préposition apporte une précision supplémentaire quant à la localisation de la personne.
Il en est de même avec au (= à le)
« I write on the blackboard »
Phrase 4:
À + lieu = in
Cette préposition indique une localisation précise du lieu où on se trouve.
« They lived in Canada , but now they live in the United States.»
Have est un verbe lexical qui exprime la possession. Dans la langue familière il est suivi de "got"
Phrase 5 :
À + manière = in
Quand il s’agit d’une façon de faire, d’une manière de se comporter la préposition « à » est traduite par « in »
To speak in a deep/loud/quiet/low/soft …etc. voice.
De peur que ──► for fear (that) / in case (that) suivi de should.
Il s’agit ici d’un registre de langue écrite.
« He made him sign the contract immediately for fear that he should change his mind.»
Il lui fit signer le contrat sur le champ, de peur qu’il ne change d’avis.
Il s’enfuit de peur d’être vu.
« He ran away for fear he should be seen.»
Dans une langue plus simple on dira :
He ran away to avoid being seen.
Remarque :
Dans une langue tès soutenue et surtout à l’écrit on emploie «lest»
They kept watch* all night lest robbers should come.
To keep watch ──► faire le guet.
Phrase : 6
À + mesure de temps = from
C’est à une heure de Paris par le train.
It is one hour by train from Paris.
A pied = on foot.
Place des compléments :
(comment, où , quand)
« She sang very well at the club last night.»
Phrase 7:
Attach importance / significance / value /weight… to sth
I attach great importance to the project. (importance [U])
Phrase 8:
À + origine = from
Chaque fois qu’il y a une indication de départ d’une chose vers une certaine destination soit dans l’espace soit dans le temps , l’anglais utilise from , quelle que soit la préposition choisie en français.
Il boit de l’eau au robinet
« He drinks water from the tap.»
Phrase 9:
Ressembler à ──► to look like (sans préposition)
Phrase 10:
À + particularité = with
La préposition à se traduit par with lorsqu'il s’agit de quelque chose qui appartient à la personne concernée.( vêtement, objet, partie du corps)
Do you see the man with a white stick ?
The girl with blue eyes is really pretty.
Remarque :
On utilise with dans le langage courant pour traduire le pronom relatif français dont
La fille dont les yeux sont bleus est jolie ──► The girl with blue eyes is pretty.
Bien sûr il est toujours possible d’employer un adjectif composé.
The blue-eyed girl is really pretty.

Emploi de it.
We use it for a person when we are identifying him or her .
« Who’s that over there ? It’s John Cook » ( not
On emploie it pour introduire le nom d’une personne que l’on mentionne pour la première fois dans le contexte.
« Somebody’s knocking at the door, it’s probably the postman.»
Mais en revanche on dira :
« I don’t like John, he is a very conceited man.» (conceited = vaniteux) . Dans cette phrase l’identité de la personne est déjà connue .
À + moyen
Lorsque la préposition à signifie: d’après, grâce à, au moyen de, elle est traduite par by.
Vous êtes fatiguée , je le vois à votre visage.
« You are tired , I can see it by your face.»

J'aimerais juste une petite précision encore à propos de l'ordre des mots dans la phrase 2.
Parmi les solutions que tu proposes, tu donnes :

J'avais mis :

Est-ce équivalent ou bien ma tournure est-elle incorrecte ?

La construction de votre phrase est correcte.
C'est simplement la tournure qui change.
J'ai seulement proposé cet exemple pour mettre en évidence cette tournure.
This car is my father's = This car belongs to my father = this is the car of my father = This is my father's car.
