1. Animals to complete art
Many artists integrate live animals in their work in order to complete it. In these conditions, creatures are secondary but very important: it brings work the life, the movement and animals enable work’s evolution.
Michel Blazy
Michel Blazy is a French artist, born in 1966 in Monaco. His work talks about the living world. His installations use and mix the ephemeral art and organic matter: avocado, orange, potato, … But time and mould change the works.
In 2007, the artist exhibits in Palais de Tokyo in Paris during several months. There, we were able to discoverer the work Post Patman : walls re-cover with mashed potatoes and carrot, an huge animal skin in cotton re-cover with a chocolate cream, a sculpture are made with orange-skin, flowers of bacon are suspended in the air… A smell glides in a room. But when we observe the works attentively, we notice that the chocolate are dissolving in a floor; moulds are installing. Time produces his effects. Moreover, some birds eat and fly around the works while flies buzz and lay eggs in the fruits.
…When living beings destroy living world….
2. Animal, in center of art
A few people are made a choice to place animals in a center of his work in order to give a new artistic dimension.
Where are art’s limits? An animal can be considered as an art work? Several artists have tried to answer these questions.
Wim Delvoye
Wim Delvoye is born in 1965. He is a Belgian conceptual artist known for number unconventional projects. Recently, He is interested in tattoo. He wanted create a work which will live in our society and which will be not dead or framed. That is why he made a choice to work with living beings.
Indeed, he has been tattooing pigs since the 1990s. In the early 21st century a tattooed pig’s project was set up in the Art Farm in China. When the piglet weighs 35 kilogram, it was tattooed. Then, when the pig weighs 200 kilogram it was killed. At least, the pigs are stuffed.
The artist is interested in the evolution of the tattoo, its deformation, which follows the growth of the animal.
In different purposes, artists want to shock. Can we let an animal to die of hunger and to say “it is art”?
