Bonsoir,
Je dois faire un article de journal sur un artiste anglais et l'une de ses oeuvres et j'ai choisi Damien Hirst et sa sculture Charity. J'ai un gros problème, j'écris anglais comme je parle français et aurais donc besoin d'âmes charitables pour qu'on m'aide à corriger mon article.
Le voici:
Charity is the name of Damien Hirst’s twenty-two foot bronze statue. It is based on the Spastics Society collection box of a girl with teddy bear and leg in callipers commonly found outside chemists in the 1960s and 1970s. Because of the image of pity that they projected, this kind of box was eliminated during the 1980s. Damien Hirst said: “they were trying to make you attracted to her but also feel sorry for her, to get money from you”.
Charity was originally installed outside London's famous White Cube gallery as part of Damien Hirst's 2003 exhibition, Romance in the Age of Uncertainty.Then, it was sold for £1.5m to a Korean who excepted in 2011 to lend it during one year to the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol. It stood on the RWA's balcony as a monumental and epic comment on social injustice.
Indeed, Damien Hirst shows that charity no exists anymore with the height of the statue and the claw to the foot of it. The claw is like a call to steal and the height of the sculpture sentences it to remain irreparably empty. It is a massive reproach of our refusal to acknowledge a failure in charity.
Hirst said he has “scuffed her appearance and burgled her charity box to highlight the erosion of society's values and put the issues on a pedestal". That’s why the paint layered over the bronze decay with time and the statue has news scares every day.
Even if is one of the richest artists in the world, Damien Hirst shows social problems like the fact that charity disappears in today’s world. That’s why we can say his art is a testimony of social injustice.
