Hello,
exercise No.96391 96361 - passive form and segregation in the USA. In the sentence "Segregation was ended...".
Could it be "Segregation ended..."? .
I know that the author wanted us to use the passive, but I´d like to know if the simple past is also correct.

Yes, the preterite would also be correct although the meaning is slightly different.
