The company are expanding/ is...

Hello,

"The company are expanding"
I have read this sentence in that very interesting page about English link words.
Why is it "are" and not "is" ?
Are both correct, or is it simply a mistake ?
I have never seen that before.

cours classique:
the football team is playing well : (le groupe)
The football team are taking a shower (les individus)

The police are questioning a man.
The man is helping the police with their enquiries.

sur votre site, on a les deux:

"Since the company is expanding, we need to hire more staff."

As the company is expanding, we need to hire more staff."

The company are expanding. Therefore / So / Consequently / As a result, they are taking on extra staff."
ce deuxième exemple me paraît moins évident que mon équipe de foot.....

Oui, j'ai vu qu il y avait les deux. je ne savais pas. merci.
en voyant ceci je me dis "pourquoi faire simple quand on peut faire compliqué ?"
"Apprendre l'anglais c'est un peu comme vouloir se rapprocher de l' horizon ! On n'arrive jamais à destination
j'ai lu ça au début d'un livre. c'est un long voyage je dirais.
