The notion I’m going to deal with is spaces and exchanges. To begin, I would like to give a definition: The concept deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. That is why I wanted to address the question: To what extent the United States are they a space of exchanges for years? First of all I will concentrate on: in the 17th century, the first settlers arrived in the U.S. Before finally focusing on the arrival of immigrants: a change for the United States?

To illustrate my first part, I want to talk about the first settlers see the U.S. as a space where they are able to begin a new life. In order to illustrate this idea, I studied the Pilgrims. In fact, they were a group of English Puritans who came to America seeking religious freedom and who hoped to make a new life, because they wanted to escape religious persecution, imprisonment and even death. United States allow them to establish a colony, develop and practice their religion without consequence.
Then, I would get interested in the first trade between the settlers and the Indians. So I worked on a comic where I could see a group of Native Americans that seem to await the arrival of settlers as they stare off a boat with three men. Indians are little or no armed; I could assume that they were willing to accommodate them. They may want to undertake exchanges with them, such as food. For me, the aim of the author was to highlight the fact Native Americans did not know who the settlers were, why they were coming and the consequences on their culture and way of life.

The United States began to be an exchange space for several centuries. Even today, foreigners settle in this great country there can lead to change.

The United States is perceived as an Eldorado where grows the "American Dream". Indeed, it is the idea held by many in the US that through hard work, courage and determination one could achieve prosperity. These were values held by many early European settlers, and have been passed on to subsequent generations.
Finally, I’ll talk about some people refusing possible exchanges with immigrants. First, we must mention a few figures on the percentage of people in the USA. For example, the percentage of Hispanics or Latinos has soared or the percentage increase of Asian people is higher (43.3%). White Americans believe that over time they will become a minority. They think with them, there will be problems of housing, medical care, educational opportunities and employment. While others believe that trade with them would be beneficial.

To conclude, I would say that for me the United States has always been a country where there is a lot of interaction between different cultures that is an area that always attracts so for several reasons such as politics, economics and freedom.
