Bonjour
je viens de préparer la notion "Spaces and exchanges" pour le BAC. Pourriez-vous la corriger s'il vous plait? Ma problématique n'est pas exceptionnelle mais j'ai eu un peu de mal.
Merci d'avance.
Over the centuries, our world has changed and has been built thanks to the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The notion « spaces and exchanges » is an important notion. Indeed, as we know, a space refer to an area that is empty or avaible and this is exactly what it means : the spaces have been empty along the years. An exchange is only possible if there are spaces. When people travel, there are languages exchanges, cultural exchanges... And it is these exchanges which have influenced the world as we know it today.
To my mind, teh fact which have upseted the world is the discovery of America because, nowadays, the United States Of America is the country which alured the world. That is why, to illustrate the notion « spaces and exchanges » I will speak about immigration in America.
Did people from worldwide be right wanting to enter America ?
Firstly we will explain the phenomenon of The American Dream with the causes and the motivations of the immigration to the USA and then we will see the stage of the trip speaking about meeting and disappointment.
First of all, The American Dream is the chance to succeed in life, to improve one's position both financially and socially. Each immigrants came to America in search of a bette life. America is perceived as « the land of opportunity » by numerous immigrants from every country on earth. The American Dream can also be sum up by the phrase : from rags to riches. That is why, America alures a lot. It has always been a nation of immigrants. In the History, we can distinguish three important waves of immigration. The first began after 1800. At this period, people fled religious persecution, starvation, revolution and even poverty. And, for this generation of people, America seemed to be a land of endless possibilities. The second wave began in 1880. Many immigrants who came in the USA around 1880 were Catholics and fled their native land to find happiness ; they wanted to make their dream come true. The last wave is the most known because it taked place in the 1970's and 1980's. Numerous immigrants wanted to come in the USA to follow the example famous people like Oprah Winfrey who started with nothing and thanks to her hard work and will-power became rich. Nowadays, most immigrants come to America because of racial discrimination and even to find a job, but currently, many of these immigrants become illegal immigrants.
As regards the trip, it has changed along the decades. Before 1892, people could enter America as they wanted. But since the first of January 1892 people who wanted to come in the USA and who had not money had to go through Ellis Island. On Ellis Island, there were around 9,000 immigrants a day speaking 25 different languages. People came from Germany, Italy, Ireland, Norway... and every where on earth. That is why the word « exchange » is very important when we talk about immigration. During their passage at Ellis Island, the immigrants had to pass a medical examination. A doctor examined their skin, their limbs... But they feared the eye test the most because if they had the Trachoma they did not be able to enter America. In my opinion, we can say that there were lots of deceptions because during the days of immigration, 2% did not pass the tests and 3,000 committed suicide.
In the course of time, the immigration in America has been developped. In a nutshell, for me, immigrate at the ninetenth century was a good idea unlike presently. Indeed, nowadays, most immigrants become « undocumented Alliens »because with the Quota Laws of 1924, only a specific number of people can come to the States depending on their countries of origin. However I can understand that people are so hopeless that they want to change their life by any means.
But before go into exile themselves, they might try to enrich themselves in their native land.
