If you listened carefully, you can(would) understand ,would it. Which is the appropriate word? can or would?
What are you trying to make us understand, is it correct?

I think the difference between "can" and "would" is on the effort. "Can" demands some effort except about listening.

I think " can " is about ability ( or permission, sometimes )and " would " is about possibility (that thing is possible or not ).
Is that right

The "Impossible" needs Past Perfect in the first part.
If we have Simple Past in the first part of the sentence, you can use "would" if you want to underline a situation which is impossible for the present, but possible in the future. It is about a dream or an hypothetical situation. (Second type of "Conditional Sentences").
