Hello All of you, hardworkers and fans of English,

Voici l’exercice 67 : cette fois encore, vous avez des révisions (They’re good for you! ) et les Bonus (pour être certains de réussir ! ). Pour le thème, afin de changer un peu, je suis revenue à des phrases indépendantes, moins difficiles à traduire parce que purement grammaticales ( un ou deux points délicats par phrase, tout de même !) La version « n’est pas un cadeau » … mais vous n’en attendiez pas moins, n’est-ce pas ? C’est donc bien, à nouveau, un . Mes suggestions seront en ligne le Jeudi 18 février tard le soir. Bon courage à tous. N’hésitez pas à vous lancer dans l’aventure …

I) Translate into English:
1. Voilà à peu près tout ce que j'avais à te dire. Prends-le comme tu veux, c'est la pure vérité.
2. Il ne faut pas t'inquiéter s'il n'est pas aussi habile que les autres. Il rattrapera son retard avec le temps.
3. Essaie d'y aller le moins possible, car il faut bien que tu perdes cette mauvaise habitude.
4. Je ne sais pas comment lui montrer combien son attitude est méprisante et comme il devrait faire un effort pour l'améliorer.

J'avoue moi aussi une préférence très nette pour les phrases courtes, celles-ci me permettant de mieux comprendre ce que tu attends de nous.

I'm not sure if and in what extent I succeeded in, but, anyhow, here is my try.

Pour concilier les deux exigences grammaticales, j’ai choisi la forme active, qui permet d’éviter la « maladresse que l’on n’entend jamais » (been being examined !) Attention ! si vous écrivez “she is examining” ou “being examining”, c’est la patiente qui devient le médecin !

- “to make someone do something” MAIS “to be made TO DO something”= forme passive.
- to fold her arms/to bend her arms/

Ceux qui n’ont pas, jusqu’à maintenant, été soumis à la loi de la jungle, ont tendance à réagir avec écoeurement (2) quand ils y goûtent tant soit peu. Là dehors (1), des milliers de gens vivent selon des pratiques bien différentes des codes de bonne conduite (3) qui favorisent le respect mutuel et la franchise dans les relations (4). L'on peut grandir en présumant que le monde vous traitera bien ou en sachant qu’il n’y a pas la moindre chance que cela se produise.

(1) « out there » = là-dehors = “dans la vraie vie”.
(2) Squeamish = écoeuré, dégoûté, nauséeux.
(3) Polite behavioural codes = les codes de bonne conduite
(4) « Fair-play » ne pouvait pas rester sans traduction. « Franc-jeu » et « l’esprit d’équipe » étaient hors contexte. Il s’agissait ici de relations sociales et non sportives.
(5) « you could grow up » = vous pourriez grandir … que j’ai préféré traduire avec un « on » indéfini et un présent de généralité.
(6) « not a hope in hell » ; « hell » était ici employé pour intensifier et accentuer le nom « hope », comme l’aurait fait "on earth" ou "in the world" = « pas le moindre espoir », « la moindre chance » …

Cette version était extrêmement difficile. Félicitations à tous ceux qui ont osé l’aborder et « se battre avec le texte », souvent avec beaucoup de réussite. Bravo pour tout ! et merci d'avoir participé !
