Hello
Could you tell me what the verb "get" brings to /means in/ the following sentences :
1. "they get told things" = Some things are told to them = They are told certain things = Some people don't hesitate to tell them certain things. = on leur dit des choses, on se confie à eux, des choses parviennent à leurs oreilles.
get est plus actif que are: They are told things, they get told things.
"they told things": ils racontèrent des choses, certaines choses.
2."I was getting carried away by my own thoughts" instead of "I was getting carried away by my own thoughts" (Ben, c'est la même )
here get = become: sens: j'étais en tain de me faire embarquer par mes propres pensées.
I was more and more carried away by my own thoughts = I was increasingly carried away by my own thoughts
get est plus puissant que to be pour exprimer une transformation:
I am tired: Je suis fatigué. C'est un état
I am getting tired: Je me fatigue, textuellement je deviens fatigué. C'est une progression, une transformation.
après votre correction:
2."I was getting carried away by my own thoughts" instead of "I got carried away by my own thoughts"
1) On se voit en train de se faire embarquer. 2) On constate, on raconta qu'on l'a été.
