COMPETENCE
LINGUISTIQUE - (15 points)
a)
Transposition au
discours indirect : (9)
- Mr Wren said that in three years, people would be able to cross the Channel by SKYSHIP.
( ‘will’ auxiliaire du futur devient ‘would’ auxiliaire du conditionnel quand une phrase passe du discours direct au discours indirect. Le verbe introducteur est au prétérit : said)
- Mr Wren said that he was sure it was more convenient than the plane.
( Le passage au discours indirect impose le prétérit pour ‘is’ qui devient ‘was’. Le verbe introducteur ‘said’ est au prétérit )
- Mr Wren wanted to know if he wanted to travel with him.
( Les deux points sont remplacés par la conjonction ‘if’ : …voulut savoir ‘si’…/ Le verbe introducteur ‘want’ est au prétérit / la demande n’est plus directe, il ne faut donc plus employer ‘do’/ il faut remplacer ‘I’ par ‘he’ et ‘me’ par ‘him’/ Traduction : Mr Wren voulut (ou voulait) savoir si il ( = s’il) voulait voyager avec lui. ).
b)
Traduire : (2)
1. I don’t want you to go to London. ( Construction du verbe WANT : (to) want someone to do something)
2. It is the fastest form of transport . ( FAST > THE FASTEST = superlatif > THE / l’adjectif FAST n’a qu’une syllabe > FAST+EST )
c)
Ø A century ago, there were no fast cars. (Prétérit)
Ø She never flies alone. (Présent simple)
Ø As soon as he is eighteen, he will go on holiday with his friends. He will go on holiday as soon as he is eighteen. Cette 2ème construction ne change rien).
- He (see) SAW her while he (wait) WAS WAITING for the bus.
III)
EXPRESSION (10
points) : 1 sujet à choisir. ( Paragraphe de 10 à 15 lignes)
1. Which form of transport do you prefer ? Why ?
(Proposition) :
- I prefer travelling by train. I like trains : nowadays trains are fast, economical and safe.
The fast train is very convenient : you can go from Paris to Marseilles in about 3 hours and a half. There’s a modern form of train which goes from Paris to London -and vice versa- very quickly : the SHUTTLE. I have already taken it, it is fantastic !
- When you travel by train you can talk to the other passengers, you can go to the bar and have a drink. If you want, you can sleep, or read, or listen to your music. ‘It is one of the safest of all forms of transport’. You don’t need to worry about a car : the railway station is in the town centre generally. If it is not, there are taxis ! The train presents the interest of being ‘clean’ : electricity doesn’t pollute the atmosphere.
- So, take the train and enjoy your trip !
2. Do you think it is important to preserve the environment ?
(Proposition)
- Nowadays the environment must be preserved : it is in danger ! We pollute a lot : we throw a lot of things away, we use dangerous chemicals, we consume petrol, electricity, gas, coal, … One day nature will die. Animals will disappear because of all our poisons. The air we breathe is bad. More people get illnesses that we don’t understand : forms of cancer, for example. Our food is full of strange substances which give it colour and taste. We don’t need chemicals in our food ! Food must be natural.
- If we don’t care about our environment our grandchildren won’t be happy. They won’t be healthy. We must do something every day to change things : it is possible to save energy. We must save the planet, it is our duty. Men have destroyed their planet, they must save it !
- The environment is where men live : if we ‘kill’ it, it will ‘kill’us !
